Someone’s there

You took a swig from your metal flask as you sat on one of the benches waiting for your train to arrive. You had get back to the hotel after all you really didn’t spend any time on campus anymore except for your RA duties or class otherwise you drank, slept or watched your son. As you put away your flask you saw a small puddle of rainwater on the concrete in front of you before you noticed your face. Gone were the happy smiling clear smooth skin face you had a month ago instead your ugly mug consisted of black stubble with dark bags under your eyes accompanied by a general look of despair.

However as you stared at the rain puddle in front of you. Soon another face appeared and before you knew it you were looking up to see Harmony standing in front of you not angry nor happy in her black school uniform her hair in its long free and wavy form her brown eyes staring at yours. You sighed not saying anything rubbing your eyes with your fists before taking your flask out once more and taking a long swig from it before putting it away once more.

It was Harmony however who broke the awkward silence. “Can we talk?” she said as it began to rain. “Whats there to talk about you wanted nothing to do with me or Anthony it seems pretty clear to me.” You said as you crossed your arms defensively in front of your chest.

Harmony seemed to flinch at your words before replying. “Its my fault I was scared and well you of all people should know what fear can do to a person.” Your eyes narrowed looking for any signs of deception as she spoke.

“I was scared of my dad you know him hell you saved me and Anthony from him.” She said brushing some hair away from her face. “What you didn’t know was that my dad did some things to me when I was younger to make sure I stood out things I didn’t want to happen with our son.” She said looking away as her voice became shaky.

Before you could speak however you noticed a scar on her wrist along with fresh bruises and then you saw a scar behind her ear once you hadn’t noticed before Harmony spoke again. “I was scared my father would take away Anthony from us as you know he is an agent of the Ministry and he has a lot friends in child protective services I was scared he would take Anthony away from us and well with you shooting your gun and not focusing on schoolwork...”

You sighed deeply as the rain began to pour followed by the clap of thunder you gestured to the wooden bench you sat on as Harmony took a seat next to you before you spoke. “Why didn’t you just tell me? I thought we are supposed to talk about these things you know that’s what married couples do! At least thats what my mom told me we had to do.” You said leaning back on the wooden bench your eyes facing the sky.

Harmony only nodded before speaking “I know I know but its just-“ you raised your hand gesturing for her to stop before speaking. “Its okay I get it but it doesn’t change the fact that it happened still and I’ll admit I am messy, lazy and maybe a bit of a slacker in school.” You admitted much to Harmony’s shock.

“But regardless what hurt me not was what you said to me but what you said about Anthony I need to know did you want Anthony or did you have him only because you felt scared that I would be opposed to anything else?” Harmony looked down at the puddle in front of you clasping her hands before speaking.

“I knew I was pregnant a few weeks before I told you Nathan but I was terrified what if you didn’t want him? What if you left me? What would I do? Where would I go?” Harmony said shaking. “I was terrified I would be alone and then it would just be me and him.” Harmony said before looking at you straight in the eyes. “I wanted Anthony from every part of my being from the minute I discovered he existed to the day we brought him home I knew I wanted to raise him whether you were there or not. I still hate myself for saying those words to even imagine him not here I-“

You sighed placing an arm around Harmony as she sobbed into your chest before you spoke. “Thats all I needed to hear I know its complicated between us I don’t expect things to be like the way they were before but if you willing would you be willing to give me another chance?” You said.

Harmony only reached into her pockets before pulling your hand towards her before you felt cold metal slide up your ring finger. Soon Harmony put your hand to her face before speaking. “Anthony’s gonna need a mom in his life and by the looks of it you need me as much as I need you.” Harmony said as tears began to stream down your face.

“I’m an idiot for even thinking I could make it work without you.” You said smiling as you rested your forehead against Harmony’s forehead. “You got that right but you know what your my idiot and no one else's.” Harmony said as she smiled back at you.
