Hunker Down And Stay Out Of Sight.

Going on a full-on offensive would be stupid. What Texas needed was to lose her pursuers and come up with a plan. As the weasel ran through the streets, she could hear footsteps racing behind her. The weasel was faster than the mayor's thugs, but they were larger and had more stamina, so it was only a matter of time before they caught her.

Looking around, Texas's eyes alighted on an open dumpster, which seemed to be leaking some foul liquid, and had accumulated a halo of flies. The sheriff winced, but wasted no time in diving into the trash, quickly burying herself in it and disappearing out of sight, her senses completely overwhelmed by the smell of weeks-old rotten garbage. Still, sometimes this was a dirty job.

As she hid in amongst the trash, Texas tried to listen to the world outside despite everything being muffled. As she listened, the footsteps dashed up to where she had been, and paused.

"What the hell? Where'd she go?"

"Fuck, she's fast... Uhhh, want to just lie and say we disintegrated her with our gas?"

"Sure... Though the mayor's gonna be pissed."

"Oh, you have no idea, girls." Texas's ears pricked up. A new set of footsteps approached to accompany this voice, a voice that was so familiar to Texas. "Mayor Vivian gave you ten men to take out one stick-thin weasel, and despite all odds, you managed to screw it up..."

"Look, Georgia, we didn't-" The voice was cut off by the sound of a meaty punch and a yelp of pain, but Texas's mind went elsewhere. Georgia, her old deputy, a twelve foot mare made of fat. Texas had fired her for taking bribes, but that made her the obvious choice to be the mayor's new sheriff.

"Enough. Texas doesn't matter. If she knows what's good for her she'll leave town, or try to, and we'll catch her. She's a dead girl, she just hasn't realised it yet." The footsteps turned and walked away, quickly followed by the other pairs of feet, until there was nothing but silence. Texas lay amidst the garbage for a while, just to be safe, and thought through her options. Really, she could only see two main ones. She could go and see her deputy, April, and try to get her help, which would be the smart move, as she needed all the help she could get. Or, alternatively, she could take a risk and call Georgia out. She had always been a proud one, and a bit of a show-off too, so she'd like nothing more than to humiliate Texas publically. Therefore, if Texas challenged her to a duel for the role of Sheriff, a showdown at high noon for all to see, the mare likely wouldn't refuse.
