Roh'demus

You looked up to see a smiling old man it was Roh'demus his long grey beard and tired grey eyes staring back as you before he smiled. “You really know to keep things interesting don’t you Nathan?” You smiled standing up before the clatter of a book could be heard. Seeing the Roh'demus bent over picking up the black book the void had given you before looking over the strange black book.

“So this is what the void has chosen to gift you? I must say its quite a curious little book I don’t recall ever seeing such a book much less this one and I have been in that library for centuries!” As Roh'demus opened the book you could see confusion in his eyes before he spoke. “A blank book? For what purpose would the void gift you such an oddity?” He said as he handed it back to you.

“It’s not blank see there is all sorts of runes and text right here see!” You said as you pointed at the purple text filling the pages of the little book. Roh'demus smiled before speaking again. “Child I believe I know whats happening here the void has seen fit to give you exclusive knowledge on a subject only for you to fully understand and has given you sight of this book.” He said as he tapped your forehead. “Meaning there is no way another aside from you can see, read or even begin to comprehend the knowledge in this book.” Roh'demus stated with a smile.

You looked him waiting for him to elaborate further. “What I mean is that there are some secrets in the world only to able to be seen by certain people in this case this book, if say someone else tried to open it much like myself they wouldn’t see anything and if they somehow did, it would just full of nonsense and even they could decipher the text you see they would never be able to comprehend it.” Nodding you sat in silence as your predecessor stood stroking his long grey beard in thought.

“I don’t suppose you have any advice on family would you old man?” In response your predecessor chuckled before speaking. “Actually I do have advice on the matter Nathan.” He said as stared in your eyes with his own grey and tired eyes. “Spend as much of your time with them as you can because they won’t be around forever and while yes you can travel back in time its not the same as living in the present.”

“But what if I mess up I have never dealt with this before, what if I make a mistake?” Roh'demus smiled “That Nathan is the wonderful thing about family no matter how many times you fail, no matter how many times you falter, no matter how many times you fall, the right kind of family will be standing right behind you waiting to pick you up and dust you off.”

You sighed before replying. “But my family is here what about when I go back to school? Sure I have my aunt but...” Roh'demus spoke. “Nathan what do think we are for? Are we not family? Sure we are not blood-kin but family is more than the people who carry the same blood as you. Family are the people you choose to surround yourself with, the people who matter the most to you.”

As Roh'demus said this he began to fade into darkness smiling. As you contemplated your predecessors words you reflected on your goals and the people around you, looking back maybe you had more family than you realized. Harmony she was family to you albeit she was your girlfriend but still as Roh'demus put it, the only that matters was who you choose to surround yourself with. Regardless you still had your predecessors too.
