Who is it?
Your Mother
As you looked up at the woman she took her arms wrapped around your back and reluctantly stepped back. Slowly she removed her hood revealing a woman you had only seen a fews times before her emerald like green eyes stared into yours. Before she spoke. “Nathan my name is Stephanie BlackThorn you may not remember me but I’’m-”
Tears fell down your face as her voice faded from your ears you fell to your knees staring at your shaking hands you were overwhelmed so many years of pain, **** and suffering, searching, hoping for the day when you would meet her, you had spent years imagining this and you were speechless you couldn’t even think.
The room was quiet as you stared at your hands your mother slowly crying but keeping her distance nervously covering her hands with her mouth crying silently you could sense she was in just as much pain as you. “I’m-” you didn’t let her finish steeling your scatterbrained emotions you stood up running before you hugged her burying your head into chest holding onto to her for dear life. As you allowed your tears to do the talking for you. You could feel your mother’s wet tears hitting your head as she wrapped her arms around you crying as well holding the baby boy she had lost and now found.
You stayed that way crying your very soul out to your mother. She in turn stroked your black hair, holding you tightly whispering “My boy my baby boy.” Repeatedly as she held onto you. “You spoke stuttering in sadness. “I missed you mom where were you?”
Your mother slowly pulled you from her chest wiping your tears away with her hand before looking at you directly. “I knew we would meet again and here you are not in the way I had hoped to meet you but obviously it worked out regardless.” She said as she took your hand kissing it before looking over your hand in her hands she smiled. “I never imagined that you would choose to undergo the trails of the elemental guardians.” She said as she traced the diamonds on the palm of your hand. “You even passed the trail of lighting the most difficult of all of the trials.” Your mother said as she looked at you with that smile that made everything better.
You smiled hugging you mother as she kissed your head before you broke the hug. “There’s so much I want to ask you! Where are we? Why are you dressed like that? Where were you all these years? Finally how did you find me?” You said the last in a near whisper.
You mother smiled facing the desk she picked up the wand handing it to you before picking up the pocket watch. “A Jacksman and Weathers Silver engraved pocket watch well your going to be telling me where you got this for sure mister now come I am sure your starving you look like your all skin and bones.” She said she handed you back your pocket watch.
Before you could object however your stomach growled betraying you. “I guess I am a little hungry mom.” You said scratching your head. Your mother only giggled placing her hand on your shoulder she guided you past the two dogs before turning right leading you to a kitchen area with a small table and chairs.
You sat down as your mother made her way to the counter. “Now what do you want to eat sweetie?” Your mind drew a blank as you thought it over what you wanted to eat before a thought crossed your mind. “Aunt Sadie mentioned you made a killer Jambalaya could I have that?” Your mother lit up before she snapped her fingers and the kitchen utensils came to life beginning to chop up onions, sausage and other ingredients to bits as the stove came to life with an eerie green flame.
“I guess the first question you want answered is as to why I am dressed like this and how I found you.” your mother said with hesitation. You nodded before she spoke. “The reason I am dressed like this because I am one of the Reapers bound to the service of The Dark One.” She said with sadness.
You sat up confused as she continued. “You were only a few months old when your father and I found out that you were sick you were going to die unless we did something. Your father as you know was a surgeon the best in the magical and non-magical world. He tried everything to find a cure for your illness, he tried everything from regular medicine to life magic, even the high priestess of the order of Life couldn’t cure you.”
Your mother wiped away some tears as she continued. “We didn’t know what to do when the Dark One approached us you see the Dark One as he is known to us is the reaper of the magical world making sure that wizards stay dead and don’t use magic to escape his domain however he had no sigil master to stop wizards from escaping **** so he made an offer to us.” Your mother looked away. “If I sealed away two dangerous spirits and promised to serve him for eternity you would live and even have the honor of carrying his mark.” She said a lone tear fell down her eye.
“Of course what he failed to tell us was that the spirits couldn’t be sealed away into traditional vessels as they were too potent to do so and only human sacrifices would work your father of course said yes and I offered my self but the Dark One said I could not because I would become a Reaper.” Tears fell down her face as she tried to pull herself together. “We had no time and there was no one else who would do it so I had to seal the other spirit inside of you.” She said finally breaking down as her tears began to fall.
Silence reined into the room the only sound to be heard were the utensils as they continued cooking. “So is this beast what made dad a serial killer?” Your mother only nodded continuing to cry as she awaited your response. “I don’t care that there is a spirit or what ever the fuck it is sealed into my stomach the only thing that matter is that your still alive and I guess the old man isn’t a bastard like I thought.”
You sighed as reached for your mother’s hand. “I am okay mom really I am it sounds like you didn’t have any easy choices and frankly I don’t care you are alive and to me thats all the matters right now.” You said holding her hand tightly you mother smiled before speaking. “You’ve grown so fast and so big I am sorry you had to have our luck and have a blue and green eye I am sure it hasn’t been easy getting a girlfriend.”
You smiled before reaching into your school vest into a hidden pocket that held your wallet inside. You spoke as you opened your wallet up. “Actually mom I have a girlfriend and well it wasn’t easy at first but we made it work out.” You said as you out a small roll of photos from a photo booth before handing it your mother.
Your mother looked over the photos the first photo an image of Harmony and you both smiling at the camera, the second photo was an image of you kissing Harmony on the cheek, the third photo was an image of Harmony and you laughing, the final photo was of you and Harmony kissing each other on the lips.
A lone tear left your mother’s eye as she lovingly held the photos. “Can I keep these?” She asked looking up you smiled “I have copies go ahead keep them Mom.”
As you continued talking with your mother the utensils strangely went silent before a bowl of hot jambalaya floated towards you the spoon already inside. Looking at your mother she nodded at you before you took your first bite.
Well how does it taste?
