A Screech

An all too familiar screech cuts through the air, making your blood run cold. You can hear cursing and scrambling throughout the house, followed by more screeching from outside. You and Celeste look at each other fearfully as you make your way out the front door. Allegra and Adam are already out front, Allegra reacts with shock as you do.

"What are you two doing? Get back inside!"

"My oh my, I'm only here to talk Allegra!" Allegra refocuses on the figures standing some distance away. Most appear to be the same type of creature that chased you before, their exact appearance differs but they're all humanoid shapes with bat-like features. But the eerily familiar voice comes from one that looks different.

"Talk my ass you bloodsucking monster!" Adam's reply only draws a laugh.

"Please boy, us 'monsters' are having a chat." The figure moves closer, you can make out a feminine form hugged by a revealing dress before she comes into the light and you panic as you see a familiar face. It's Jenny but her skin is stark white, her eyes an inhuman red. Her dress and makeup has an almost gothic style even in spite of her still bright blonde hair. She gives a fanged smile as she notices you.

"Why the gang's back together again! A shame I'll be leaving soon." Adam fires his gun but the bullet passes through her, her form briefly shifting as if she were made of some kind of fog or mist.

"Touchy are we? Fine, fine let's cut to the chase." She sweeps her gaze across the four of you. "The simple fact is I know where all of your little hidey holes are, there's nowhere safe frome me or my pets. So my ultimatum is simple - surrender and I will treat you all with dignity. Or you could fight, why not ask your old friends how well that works?"

Several of the monsters in the distance advance into the light, they seem more human than the one you saw earlier. Allegra and Adam's faces both contort in rage and a hail of bullets drops the beasts but continue to pass through your former friend who sighs in a dramatic fashion.

"Case made then? I suppose you could abandon the city as well, but let's face it - I'm not stopping here." Her body begins to melt away into a black mist but not before giving you all a playful wink. "If any of you change your mind let me know! I always have room for loyal servants."

The creatures that remain leave with the mist, leaving the four of you standing alone. Allegra cries out in rage as she punches the wall of the farmhouse with surprising ****. If she hadn't made such a racket you likely wouldn't have noticed, you're too wrapped up in your own thoughts. You saw what happened to Jenny in the house, you had even chosen not to trust her before destroying the array. But seeing her like that was heartbreaking, it was like watching some monster using your friend like a puppet.

"We need to move-"

"Move to fucking where? Clearly she can find us wherever we go, she's getting stronger while we've been running like a bunch of goddamn cowards for weeks!" Allegra always had a bit of a temper to say the least but her outburst is shockingly furious, though it's hard to blame her given the circumstance. You look to Celeste, her face is incredibly troubled.

"I...might have an idea."
