I am not that kind of guy

I place a hand on Wendy’s shoulder and push her away a little.

“Sorry, Wendy. I just broke up with my girlfriend. I’m not ready to jump into another so quickly.”

Wendy then starts giggling.

“I was not suggesting to be your girlfriend. I just wanted to make you feel good. Or are it only the city boys that enjoy blowjobs?”

“No, village boys like blowjobs too.” I say. “Though I feel girls should reserve those for their boyfriends.”

Wendy seems to be taken aback by my words and blink in surprise.

“Wow, first time a guy says no to a blowjob. Village boys really are different.” She then seductively caresses my chest and says, “So much more respectful.”

“Well, the offer stays open. Let me know if you change your mind.”

After that Wendy enters her room and leave me alone in the hall. And my erection curses at me for not taking her up on her offer. But it would have been wrong. If I had accepted, even if I were in the middle of receiving a blowjob from Wendy, I would only have been able to think of Mia. I don’t want to insult Wendy by pretending she is someone else while she is giving me sex.

I head back to my room and find Ryul there. Like Wendy, he first asks me if I am doing alright. I again tell about my duel with Leona and my subsequent rank upgrade, as well as how rare Kiara described it to be.

“Damn, Darx. If this keeps up, you could become B rank or even A.” Ryul says after I told him my story. “See, this is why you got to keep positive.”

“You’re right. Who knows, maybe I will rank up all the way to S.” I reply.

“Let’s not get too positive, Darx. We don’t want you to be disappointed.”

Ryul and I then laugh together. I really need to introduce this guy to Oliver when I get the chance. We will have so much fun between the three of us.

After a while, we turn in and sleep until the following morning. The dream I have that night was not of Ophelia. It was of the mossy clearing back home. I was there … and so was Mia. We were both nude, in each other’s embrace, making love. Such a beautiful memory. I wish this dream would last forever.

It doesn’t, of course. The next day inevitably arrives and demands I wake up.

As Ryul and I exit our room, we meet Wendy and Shalia. Wendy quickly grabs my hand and acts like she’s my girlfriend.

“Well, you sure bounced back quickly from your girlfriend cheating on you.” Ryul mentions.

“No.” I groan. “Gerald was harassing her last night so we decided to pretend to be dating.”

Wendy then pouts at me and says, “But Darxie, that’s not what your lips were saying last night.”

When hearing Wendy tease me, Ryul starts to laugh and Shalia starts to blush.

I feel like denying it, but chances are protesting will only make it seem like I’m trying to hide my so-called relationship with Wendy.

“Ok, fine. We are just faking it.” Wendy then admits.

“Oh, great. That means more chance for Gerald to come after me.” Shalia groans.

“Don’t worry, Shalia. Gerald is the kind of guy who wouldn’t mind seducing both of us at the same time, so you would have him come after you no matter what.” Wendy ‘comforts’ her roommate.

Shalia gives us an appropriate roll of her eyes.

“Wait, here’s an idea. Why don’t you and Ryul fake being together as well.” Wendy suggests.

“I don’t know?” Shalia asks.

“Well, it works for me. Should work for you as well.” Wendy shrugs.

Shalia looks away. I’m not sure if she hates the idea or if she’s just embarrassed.

“Nah, you’re right. Ryul probably wouldn’t be into a girl like you anyways.” Wendy then says.

“Yes, I would!” Ryul quickly replies.

We all look at him and then he starts getting embarrassed himself.

“Uhm, well, I mean, …” Ryul tries to explain himself, but we all just start laughing.

As we continue to the dining room, Wendy returns to holding my hand. Shalia and Ryul follow behind us. Though, when we enter to room, I catch a glance of Ryul and Shalia behind me and I notice them holding fingers. I guess maybe Shalia is going to try fake dating Ryul.

During our breakfast, I let Leona take a look at my adventurer card. I also tell Shalia and Miranda about it, and I get compliments from all, except from Leona.

“Tss, next time we have a match, I’m going all out on you.” The cat girl says.

“Good point. If you hadn’t held back, he might be rank B already.” Miranda quips.

We laugh again, including Leona.

“Seriously Leona. I feel like I am in your debt. So, if you need me to help you out with something, let me know.” I say.

A few minutes later one of the royal guards walks up to our table.

“Hey, you with the red eyes.” He says. “Are you Darx?”

“I am.” I reply.

“There’s a girl in the courtyard who’s come to visit you. Some chick from the Celestial Unicorns named Amelia.”

Any joy that might have been expressed on my face from my previous interaction with my new friends immediately melts away. Amelia, she’s here. She knows I’m being trained in the castle. She must have heard from Oliver.

Part of me wants to rush outside and hug Amelia, then tell her all about my awakening, my training, my new friends, show her my adventurer card. But that’s the part of me that still believes in the old Amelia. The Amelia waiting for me in the courtyard now is one that was doing all kinds of stuff with Kase that I don’t want to imagine. She even did it while I was healing from my wounds at home. Someone who had no problem deceiving me the same way Mia has deceived me. Both of them pretending nothing was going on while in fact there was.

“I’m sorry, but could you tell her I’m ill or otherwise unable to speak to her.” I tell the guard. “I’m not ready to see her just yet.”

The guard nods and then heads back to the courtyard.

It takes another half hour before Kiara collects us for training. I hope Amelia has already left for her guild. I’d hate to meet her in the courtyard after she was told I’m too sick to come out. Fortunately, she isn’t present there. But Syvis and her group are just standing there, looking at the sky.

“Something wrong?” Kiara asks her fellow mentor.

“I felt a few drops.” Syvis says. “I have a feeling it’s about to rain.”

It is very dark, though. Clouds are everywhere and they are dark grey. I can feel a few droplets as well. Then it starts to rain. Like, a lot. We get back into the castle. A minute later it is pouring.

Kiara looks over at Syvis and says, “Wanna hit the library?”

“Sure.” Syvis replies.

On our way back, we come across the third mentor, Dante. Kiara and Syvis inform him about the rain and he has his group join us to the library as well. When we enter the royal library I was amazed. This place has got three whole floors worth of books! There must be a crazy amount of knowledge hidden over here.

Kiara gives us a quick explanation that the queen and her predecessors have been recording every single skill they came across for many generations. This way, not only are they knowledgeable of what each skill does, but they can also provide the royal guard of the best understanding and training of each skill. Now we get to make use of this knowledge as well. Amelia must have felt like she arrived in heaven when they let her in here 6 months ago.

Our mentor helps Ryul to not 1 but 2 books. One that describes the [Heaven’s Stance] skill and the other goes into [Earth’s Stance].

Leona instead receives a book for studying her [Divine Blessing] skill. For Wendy it is a book on [Piercing Strike]. Miranda receives a book on beast taming and Shalia gets a book that will help her how to combine water and earth into Mud magic.

The book Kiara picks out for me is one on water magic. Awesome, now I get to learn some more specific water spells.

After helping us collect these books, Kiara brings us to the second floor. There are 2 private rooms there. Syvis and her group have already taken the first and Dante is using the second. That means we need to make due in the library itself.

The book Kiara gave me starts with an explanation of water as an element. That it is an adaptable element, constantly changing its shape, and that as a water mage I should focus on being adaptive as well. Later it describes a few basic spells. I remember very well that the only reason I won from Leona last night is because she held back. If I were to fight her again, I’m going to need a better defense. Fortunately, there is a defensive water spell in this book called [Water Barrier]. I can see myself using this one against Leona so I start studying it.

Unfortunately, before I am able to finish, I feel somebody tapping my shoulder. When I look, I notice it is Harold.

“Follow me.” Harold whispers.

I place the book down and silently leave the library with him.

As we walk through the castle halls, Harold asks me how my training is doing. Not only do I excitedly tell him about my progress but I also show him my adventurer card. Then I proudly inform him about having ranked up.

“A rank up?” Harold asks astonished. “Within the same day of getting your rank? That is amazing Darx. I’m sure my guest will be amazed by that.”

“Your guest?” I ask.

“Yes, it’s the reason I pulled you away from your mentor. I’ve got someone I want you to meet.” Harold says as we arrive at his office.

The queen’s counselor then opens the door to his office and invites me inside.
