The Vasquez Manor, Revisited

Reinfast led us to the Vasquez manor in the Noble’s Ward. Upon reaching the gate, the same guard as yesterday saluted Reinfast again, opening the gate and ushering us inside. We passed through the garden into the main hall of the manor. The catgirl maid from before curtsied and led us to Vasquez’s office, same as last time. As she knocked on the door to announce us to the Lord of the house, I turned to my party.

“This guy’s kinda intimidating, so be ready for that. Try not to speak out of turn or say anything dumb. I got the impression he’s not exactly the benevolent type,” I warned. Sofia nodded, clutching her staff to her chest. Lucille placed a hand on her shoulder, giving her a reassuring look.

“My Master is ready for you,” said the maid, opening the door for us. Reinfast entered the room first, striding behind the desk and standing at his father’s side. My party and I entered as well, standing across the desk from the Lord.

Now that they were side-by-side, I could see the resemblance between them. Reinfast inherited the jawline and physique of his father. However, his eyes he clearly got from his mother, whoever that is, as he lacked the piercing gaze and near permanent scowl of Rodrigue.

“Thank you for agreeing to meet me here today.” said Lord Vasquez as the door closed behind us.

“It’s an honor, Lord Vasquez,” said Lucille, bowing to the noble. Following suit, Sofia and I bowed as well.

“Enough pleasantries.” Vasquez said. “You must wonder why I have brought you here, no?”

“Yes, milord,” I nodded.

“I heard from my son what happened last night in the adventurer’s graveyard. It would seem that your traps nearly caused great harm to my heir,” he said.

“Yes, father! That commoner’s pitfall nearly broke my neck!” Reinfast exclaimed.

“But-” I started.

“Silence, both of you.” boomed Vasquez. “It would also seem, that had it not been for you, my foolish son would be dead, likely with many townsfolk with him, had you three not stopped the necromancer. My original desire for this request was to have other adventurers aid him in defeating the necromancer, hopefully giving him the experience he would need to take adventuring seriously. That desire was not fulfilled. As such, you shall no longer be permitted to work alongside him.”

“Yes! Good, father! Teach that commoner what happens when-” Reinfast began.

“AS, he will be put under the strict supervision of a group of my own handpicked people, who WILL ensure that desire becomes fulfilled. As for you three, I shall recommend to the guildmaster...due to the defeat of a necromancer and an undead horde by three low level adventurers...that you three be granted access to the higher level requests.” Vasquez said. Reinfast looked dejected. Ha.

“T-thank you, milord,” I said, bowing to him. Sofia and Lucille did the same.

“I shall expect great things from you,” Vasquez said. “You may leave. Vanessa!”

The catgirl maid opened the door, “Yes, My Lord?”

“Show these three out. Ensure they are given their reward,” Lord Vasquez said.

Vanessa nodded, gesturing for us to follow her out of the office, “Right this way.”

“Now, as for you...” we heard Vasquez mutter as the doors closed behind us.

“Please wait here, madams. Sir Flynn, if you will follow me,” said Vanessa, heading down a the hallway. I shrugged to my party before heading off after her.
