Chapter 21 by brambank brambank

What should Leanne do?

Leave him

Leanne felt guilty but didn't think she had much choice. Peering apologetically towards the clown she turned and dashed for the exit. As she flung the door open Leanne felt a hand on her shoulder dragging her back. Quickly she spun round and swung the dagger towards the two sisters causing them to flee with another loud hiss. Free from their grip Leanne landed back in the corridor and slammed the door shut behind her.

She collapsed on the floor breathing hard as her chest heaved uncontrollably. She realised that her blouse was still open and quickly buttoned it up to cover her pert breasts. Once she was composed Leanne headed back to Abbie. Wondering how she was going to explain that she'd left her father in the clutches of those three awful sisters.

"Where's... Where's my dad?" asked Abbie sorrowfully as she saw the young woman approaching.

"I'm sorry, Abbie." replied Leanne solemnly. "I couldn't help him." Abbie looked like she was about to cry. "But when we finish this he'll be okay. Right? We can go get him then." Something about the look on Abbie's face told her that wasn't going to be as easy as that. Either way they had what they needed and had to move on to the next step.

"Okay." continued Abbie. Wiping her eyes with the back of her hand. "We need to go on. Right?" Leanne nodded confidently while feeling anything but. "We have what we needed. Now we can finish this." Abbie held up the silver key and Leanne gave her the small blade. "Let's go."

Leanne followed dutifully as Abbie led her down various corridors. The route twisted this way and that but she had confidence that the young blonde knew where she was going. She noted how the bright lights of the corridor where she entered were slowly dissipating. The corridor growing steadily darker the further they went. Eventually as they reached the final corner Abbie stopped and gestured for Leanne to be silent.

"This is the last step," she whispered closely. "And the most dangerous."

"Figures." replied Leanne quietly.

"The key will open the door around the corner," continued the blonde.

"So what are we waiting for?" questioned Leanne. "Let's go open it."

Abbie gestured for Leanne to relax. "The guard." she whispered. Leanne leant forward and peered around the corner. There, barely a few metres away she could see the door. It was large and heavy looking. The solid grey steel surface not exactly encouraging her to enter. Whatever was behind it obviously didn't want to be disturbed. In front of the door was a figure. He seemed mostly human but there was something animalistic about him too. As he patrolled he alternated between two feet and four. He was old yet muscular while his hands and feet were bare with sharp claws.

"Okay, so what do we do?" asked Leanne. "How do we get past him?" Abbie hung her head shamefully before answering. Leaving the young woman a little impatient while she waited for a response.

"We need a... distraction." Suddenly Leanne understood why Abbie had been so ****. And why she had been invited there in the first place. "If my dad was here he could..." Abbie didn't finish her thought and Leanne was left with yet more reasons to regret leaving Abbie's father behind.

Leanne prepared herself for the inevitable. If this was why she was here then so be it. She would do her part and hopefully be around for the end. Abbie was about to explain something but Leanne didn't really listen. She knew how this worked by now and she'd just have to do what she did best.

What should Leanne do?
