Chapter 17 by Forcas Forcas

On to the Medical Wing

Meeting Doctor Armeccitti

Older than the sports faculty, the main building had narrower corridors and weathered paintwork. The floor was tiled and their footsteps were audible, the sound ringing along the hallways. The medical ward was situated centrally, although F&R was relatively small compared to some other universities, it was very well equipped to deal with the range of issues various animals may have, and this showed, as the peeling paint changed to clean white walls. The demand from students who would need medical attention on campus was low, so the room was about the same size as a small lecture theater. Rows of beds lined each wall, complicated machines beeped and hummed in the background.

This late in the day, Daria was the only occupant on the bed nearest the door and was being tended to by a spectacled, austere looking canine. Blake stopped short of approaching the bed, looking over to Lexi and motioning her forward. 'Lexi, this is Dr. Armeccitti,' he turned to the Doctor, 'Doctor, Lexi.'

Lexi greeted the Doctor. She had short fur, and was of small stature, she stood about a head lower than Lexi, and barely came up to Blake's chest, however she projected around her an aura of respect. A smart shirt and waistcoat was covered by a pristine white lab coat, and at present she clutched a clipboard.

The Doctor moved over, pulling the curtains around the bed, hesitating when she got to Blake. 'Blake, perhaps you have something to get back to?' Armeccitti held the curtain open for him. It was poor attempt at tactfully asking him to leave, but Blake was familiar with the Doctor and appreciated the effort.

He made to leave, 'I'll give you two some privacy, although,' he spoke to the Doctor this time, 'I'll need to speak with her about what happened when she wakes up,' he turned to Lexi, 'I'll wait outside for you.'

Lexi nodded as he left, before turning back, 'So Doc, what wrong with her?',

Armeccitti looked less than thrilled at her mode of address, 'Well for one, you'll call me 'Doctor', while you're in here.' She looked at Lexi pointedly, Lexi withered slightly under the intensity of the stare.

'Okay, 'Doctor'. What's wrong with my sis?'

Armeccitti smiled, and began speaking at a blistering pace, 'Much better. As for what's wrong, it's hard to say precisely. Your sister appears to have had some kind of **** sensitivity to the sexual hormones of mammals, including her own. Blake was mentioning he'd seen her enter into a trance earlier this week after a large amount of stimulation, and it seems a similar thing happened here. For some unknown reason however, here she passed out, fortunately not suffering any further injuries. I would recommend entering her for exemption from the Privileges Scheme. Until we know why she responds in this way we don't know if it could otherwise be harmful, but that is something for her to decide. She was lucky she got found today as well. It's one thing to pass out in a room full of people who can help you, its another entirely to pass out in an empty classroom with no one around.' Armeccitti finally paused for breath, but started talking again before Lexi could even begin to formulate a sentence.

'On an unrelated note she also has a minor puncture wound, probably caused by antlers. Noticing a question forming on her lips, she preempted Lexi's question, 'Don't worry its not serious. Blake already told me what he saw so there's mystery as to who did it either. As long as someone keeps an eye on her she'll be fine.'

Doctor Armeccitti ended her analysis, it took Lexi a while to catch up with the quantity of information she had been given, eventually focusing on the more straight forward issue. 'Wait… she's wounded?' Lexi looked quizzically in the Doctor's direction, Daria didn't appear to have any marks on her.

Armeccitti adjusted her glasses, contemplating the Doe, 'You should probably just ask her about that. I'm sure she'll be happy to tell you once she wakes up.'

Lexi sighed, she got the distinct impression the Doctor didn't like her, 'Okay, when'll she wake up?'

The Doctor shrugged, 'Unknown. The duration for loss of consciousness is hard to determine anyway and here we don't even know why she passed out in the first place. Then again, she does appear to be perfectly fine in all other aspects, so I wouldn't expect it to be too long, say tomorrow morning or so at the earliest. I'm afraid you wont be able to stay here but if you want to come in earlier, I'll make sure to let you in. Daria won't be leaving until then anyway, I'll be sticking around overnight to keep her under observation.'

'And you're sure I can't stay?', Lexi had wished she would be able to stay with her sister but Armeccitti shook her head dashing her hope.

'I'll be sure to let you know, don't worry,' She handed Lexi a note, 'This will allow you to leave whatever session you're in, if she wakes up then.'

Lexi took the note, put out. She turned and wandered out of the ward.

Out of the waiting room...
