The Training of Megan

It was Friday, near quitting time at the office, and I couldn’t be happier. I’d been slacking pretty hard at work the past couple of weeks, given everything that happened with Megan. I started to pack up my things and shut my computer down when Josh peeked his head into my office.

“Hey Mike, heading out?” he said, a certain caution in his smile. We hadn’t spoken much since he’d shown me the video of Megan fucking that asshole from the gym. The video that had transformed my relationship.

“Yep, just about done here.”

“Listen man,” He said, stepping inside, “I just want to say it’s been good to have you back this week. I know that with… you know… everything, that you needed that time off, but we’ve really needed the help the past week. Good to see you back to your old self.”

“Thanks man, I appreciate it.” He looked like he wanted to say something, but was stopping himself. “What’s on your mind Josh, you’re not usually one to hold back.”

“It’s just… I wanted to ask how everything went with Megan.”

Even thought I expected exactly this question I couldn’t help but feel the heat rise to my cheeks. Despite how I’d turned it around, it was kind of humiliating that Josh, or anyone, knew that I’d been cheated on. Not good for the old image, or ego, you know?

I pushed that down and smiled.

“It’s all good man, you and I are friends. I really appreciated the heads up on that video. But yeah, it’s taken care of. We worked it out.”

He seemed surprised by that. It was understandable – how do you work that out? Well, I had certainly found a way. But this wouldn’t help my respect around the office one bit. Cheated on and then rolled over and forgiven the slut. Well, there was one thing I could do about that. And besides, I owed Josh one for coming to me in the first place.

“Yeah, I know,” I said, smiling more genuinely now, “You’re thinking I should have kicked the slut to the curb. I get it.”

“No, man, it’s cool. That’s none of my business. It’s between you guys. I get it.”

“Listen,” I said, standing up as I prepared to leave, “What are you doing Sunday? I was thinking about grilling some steaks and having a few beers. Why don’t you come by?”

“Sure, I’m not doing anything,” I suspected that, as he himself had recently been dumped by his psycho ex, “I’ll bring some beer.”

“Sounds good. I’ll see you around three or so.”

I slapped him on the shoulder and headed home.
