All right. Hold up for a second. Let's use our magic brains for a second and come up with some twisted demon logic. What does it mean to "be Beatrice?" You don't look anything like the Witch of the Portrait, EVA, so obviously you were able to become Beatrice without actually... becoming Beatrice. Are you following?

"Now you're actually thinking! Go on, Player."

I wanted to tell EVA this could be a logical dead end, and to admit I had no idea what I was talking about... No. The first step in making this ridiculous logic work was to believe it yourself. Did anyone ever win with that kind of a half-assed proclamation? I need to fully commit. EVA. Give me some descriptions of Beatrice.

"All right. She's a powerful magic witch who can do anything, even revive the dead!"

That's no good. The Witch of the Portrait is more qualified to be that Beatrice than you, at least right now. Try again.

"Uh, Beatrice forces humans to submit, admit magic exists, and praise her name!"

Good, I feel like we're getting somewhere. Both of you are creatures of magic. That could be either of you. Now, I feel like we're almost there. Name one thing Beatrice is supposed to be that the least magic thing you can think of, but also the least tied to the particular appearance of the Witch of the Portrait.

"Mmm... mmmm...!!" I could see EVA concentrating intensely, shutting her eyes and rubbing her temples with her free hand. "Aaaah! That's it, I think I got it! Beatrice is the wealthy patron of the Ushiromiya family!"

Well said! That's perfect! So-

"Hooold iiiit!" I heard a voice shout as a flood of golden butterflies filled the room. With little more fanfare, the Witch of the Portrait appeared, the one traditionally known as Beatrice. She grabbed the edges of her skirt and held them so she could quickly walk to me. "I will not permit this! If you're saying someone else is Beatrice, you're basically denying me! We can't both be Beatrice!!"

Hmm... Is your position actually that steady, witch? Now that I think about it... Is it clear that you exist on this day of the island, either? I think there's room for doubt... On the other hand, if there was an attractive woman with access to the mansion walking around and giving people money, she would definitely be qualified to call herself Beatrice... Especially if her ultimate goal was to get humans to acknowledge her as Beatrice, and that magic exists.

"Well, lucky for us, there is no such person on the island!" Beatrice growled, grinding her teeth and not looking much like the dignified Witch in the portrait herself.

I looked into the eyes of both Beatrices... then laughed. I don't often get to do this in my stories, so I savored it. Kehe. Hahaha. Ahaahaa!!

What I'm trying to say is that I can be the true Beatrice's greatest ally right now. Allow me to explain: I am capable of writing myself in as a wealthy benefactor visiting Rokkenjima. If I write that I'm traveling with Ushiromiya Eva, the rest becomes very, very simple...

I saw EVA's face light up in girlish delight, while Beatrice nearly snapped her pipe in two with anger. "And just where are you going to get all of that money, huh?!" the latter asked, glaring stakes at me.

I hardly even have to justify that. I don't think my readers even care if I do.

"It's nice to get something for no effort once in a while," EVA admitted, rocking back and fort as she shot her wicked smile at her Predecessor. "I've done so much, I think I deserve it! Now, Old Beatrice, can't you just give up and die...?"
