Can Bedevalus connect his attack and begin the fight?
No; his attack is blocked by another intruder and then yet more intruders
Bedevalus recoiled, feeling his sword connect with a sheer wall of rocks and metals, pulled from the earth. Even as his sword swung backwards, the knight's eyes shined with excitement and a hungry grin spread across his face. The visitors had returned an attack! He was finally going to have a battle! "Finally, you've answered my challenge!"
Once he gathered his wits and looked closer... he realized that both of the two looked just as surprised as he did. Furthermore, Gaia Daughter had turned her attention to the sky. The knight squinted his eyes, then shielded them from the sunlight, joining her in looking above. Seeming to hang above the planet, a woman's face had appeared; like Gaia Daughter's own mask, it looked to be an emotionless, expressionless, yet somehow judgmental frown, peeking from the clouds in a size so enormous that it made even Gaia Daughter's earlier transformation seem manageable.
Jervale whistled. An actual god had come to challenge the tower? Maybe Bedevalus would finally get that fight after all... and if he did, maybe this would be the one that finally smashed him. After that, Jervale could move in to mop up.
"You shall not taste battle yet, Bedevalus!" A woman's voice boomed so loudly, it sounded as though it roared through the atmosphere like a cosmic event.
"Yeah, I'm starting to get that." Complaining, the knight shouldered his sword again and glared into the sky. "But who are you to state that, newcomer?"
"I am Mother Earth, the one who keeps balance among all of Earth's forces. With your substantial powers, you have intervened in a primal battle between Earth and Sea. I have come to oversea the conclusion of this new contest. However, my Daughter is correct: a battle conducted between yourself and all of Earth's many elements would have no dignity. First, I demand a contest of the elements. The one who proves herself superior will be the one to face you."
The knight was cautiously optimistic. "Oh... yeah? Okay. I can get behind that." He didn't like the idea of being reduced to just one challenger instead of two, but on the other hand, the one he got would apparently be the strongest of all of Earth's elements! Bedevalus had to admit, he was getting pretty stoked. "So which do you think will take it? Earth or Sea? Which is more powerful?"
The voice in the sky responded with a lack of emotion. "They are equal in power. Perfectly equal. The truth is that the Earth shall never overcome the Sea. However, there are other ways in which they may compete. You referred to them as comely women. While each has been blessed with an equal measure of my strength- power indisputable- they have cultivated their own personas as women. Perhaps we may judge them on that criteria."
Bedevalus had seen his curse in action enough to know where this was going. "No! No, I wholeheartedly object! Y-You said they have indisputable power, right? Let me dispute it, please!"
"I shall not. It is indesputable. You must heed my wisdom and accept my offer. They will settle the matter of who shall claim your challenger's role as women. Then, and only then, shall you have your battle." To enforce the Mother's will, vines and rocks both coalesced to form a seat beneath the man, then yanked him roughly down upon it, causing him to drop his sword. Of course, with his strength, he easily broke his arms free... only to see the very earth itself shift to cover them. "Cease your struggle."
This was a little weird, but... he was actually being challenged! Finally! Bedevalus summoned up more of his power and broke free from the rocky prison. "Ha ha ha ha! Mother Earth, you are my challenger! I'll face you down and conquer your entire world, if that's what it takes!" The knight shouted into the sky, raising one finger towards the heavens.
"... Are you really so cruel, Bedevalus?"
"Wh-What? I just want an honorable fight!"
"You really are a demon of a knight, denying the appeal of each of my daughters so readily, without so much as offering them a chance to prove themselves."
"I deny them nothing! I just want... an honorable fight!" The knight repeated himself, wondering why he was being treated as the bad guy in this scenario. Well, technically, he was... but if they knew everything he'd been through, surely they'd humor him with a real battle!? "Fine... Fine! Have your contest as women! But then, by the bloody hundred floors of this tower, someone give me a fight!"
"You may come to regret your ego. If nothing else, I hope you can find some comfort in witnessing the full splendor of the elements before you perish."
Gaia Daughter and Fishfreak looked pleased in spite of themselves, until the latter shook her wet head and looked to the sky in confusion. "Wait, I'm NOT one of YOUR DAUGH-ters, am I?"
"Even a misguided and rebellious sea still serves Mother Earth. It is all part of the grand scheme. Please set aside that question as we begin the contest."
What does Bedevalus witness next?
