Yes, dancing

"Course we're going," Beth says right away.

OK that settles it. Beth talks to them easily about dresses and shopping because no one has anything to wear out. Obviously the coaches don't know about this because they would never allow it. But the girls were able to organize their little swimming party last night, so why not this too?

Beth's mischievous look returns when the girls leave the bathroom.

"I didn't agree to this," you point out.

Beth puts on a hurt look. "You mean you *don't* want to take me on a date?"

"Oh my God."

"We're going dancing then."

"OK." She's crazy. If Michelle finds out about this she'll be pissed, but you won't back out.

You can't hide in a bathroom all morning. You sneak outside and do some stretching before breakfast, then go to the dining hall to eat.

It makes you really happy to have someone to sit with. You and Beth watch the other players as you eat.

You spot the ponytail girl from last night that Adella was bending over in the woods. She's not with Adella now, she's with some other girls that you haven't talked to.

Adella sits with Riona. She catches you looking. God is she scary.

Michelle is sitting with the huge, Russian coach. The Russian coach is easy to notice with her short, pink hair, and huge, muscled body. She seems nice, but the huge muscles are imposing. Her name starts with a Z.

After breakfast there's a short lecture, and then you're out on the fields doing drills. You are separated from Beth for this, but soccer is your life, so you get into it. It's the one place where you can concentrate. The athleticism of the girls around you is beautiful, but not distracting or seductive, although you easily spot the best players.

Adella stands out from everyone else. She's ready to be a pro.

And Beth is good, but her frame is probably too small for pro play.

Ingrid, the blonde, Swedish girl must be good because she's here. Everyone at the camp is a standout player, but she is not playing well. Neither is the Indian girl, Viti.

Riona is in great form today, and the Irish girl is unbelievably fast for someone with such a big chest.

The Polish girl with green hair, Ela is bringing a lot of power to the field. And the petite, French girl named Julietta probably has the most technical skill of any of you. You wish you could play on a team with some of these girls, but apart from the mock matches that you do in the afternoons, you probably won't get to. In a few weeks, everyone will go home to whatever part of the world they come from.

Lunchtime comes fast, and the only thing that could make eating with Beth better would be if you weren't both quite so sweaty and dirty, but that's the nature of the camp. You eat, sit through another lecture, and then go back to the fields. Everyone is warmed up from the run and the drills.

You find yourself on a team with Beth for the first time.

Normally you're a star striker, but here surrounded by all these other stars, you are relegated to winger. That's OK.

Because of her immense speed and endurance, Beth is central midfielder, and you have a feeling she'll be passing to you.

Ingrid is a defender on your time, and Riona. You have Duni as well, and she's in your striker position. It's a strong team, but you're up against a strong team.

Adella is striker for the opposition, of course. Her winger is Lena, and Ela is their Forward. That's a powerful offense, especially when Lena and Ela seem to know each other and how to work together.

They also have Julietta as defender, and that worries you. Viti is their goalkeeper.

The match starts, and it's a brawl. Beth gets the ball and just as you thought, she gets it to you, giving you an opportunity within the first few moments of the match.

You can't take it all the way, but Tina, your Forward from Canada is there for you. You give her the ball, and that gets you farther, but she gets into trouble and gives it right back, but you've gained a lot of ground.

If you can get past Julietta, you'll have a shot. You don't get past her.

The French girl takes it from you effortlessly, then blasts it. Now Ela's got it, and she does what anyone would do and gives it to Adella. Adella underestimates Olga, your goalkeeper, and doesn't score. The ball doesn't go to Beth, but it still ends up with you. You're ready for Julietta this time, but Viti is a good goalkeeper. She saves it by kicking it out, and on it goes.

You are as happy as you've ever been in your life until Ingrid gets in Adella's way. The Swedish girl gets knocked down hard and a whistle blows. The match is on hold while Ingrid gets checked out. She looks OK, but everyone is being careful about staying safe.

Adella's coach scolds her, looking truly upset. Adella doesn't care.

Beth finds you, but your own coach is coming your way. Michelle Tran hands you a water bottle and glances at the girl from Barcelona.

"Don't take a hit like that," she warns you.

You aren't stupid. You know that. Michelle goes back to hang out with the Russian coach. It seems like they're friends now.

"Oh God. Riley."

"What?"

Beth is grabbing your arm. You look to see Adella looking at the two of you.

"She'll **** us," Beth says.

"We're boned," you agree.

But what can you do about it? It's back to the game, and Ingrid's back on the field. She's OK, but she's scared. It's not fair to everyone else to have someone like Adella out here.

The next time you catch Adella looking at you, you give her a challenging look. Just as you thought, that bothers her, and she fixates on you. Let her do that. If she's going to run someone over, it can be you. You are tough. Let the other girls just play soccer.

You score the first goal on an a pass from Beth, and she rushes into your arms while the others cheer.

Adella looks pissed. She's faster than you are, but if you know to be on the lookout, she can't run you over. You know better than to truly challenge her. If it comes to it, you'll get out of the way and let her score. It's just a practice match.

She crashes through your defense and scores immediately, tying up the game. The whistle blows, and your team goes in to consult with your coaches. For this game it's the beautiful French coach, and the Canadian coach. They point out some weaknesses on the other team and advise you all to stay clear of Adella for your own safety.

Michelle and Zarya are coaching the other team. You hope they're telling Adella not to be a bitch.

"What kind of dress you gonna wear?" Beth asks you, squeezing your hand discreetly.

"What?"

"Your dress tonight."

That's part of the sneaking out. We have to go shopping before we can go to the club.

You are going to tell Beth that you have no idea, but you see Adella watching. You quickly let go of Beth's hand.

"Let's survive first," you tell her.

"Too fucking right," she agrees.

The match is back on, and more of a brawl than ever. Your defense struggles. Lena is mean, and Ela is very good, and everyone is afraid of Adella. The best way to take the pressure off them is to score some goals, but Julietta is stuck to you. You even think of trying something, and she's there.

With Tina's help you make it happen, fake out Julietta, and Tina gets it in.

"America and Canada," you say, accepting the fist bump. She's shy, but she looks happy. She's good.

You're up by one, and Adella doesn't like it. Lena gives her the ball, and you know something is different. For a little while, Adella was playing nice. Maybe the coaches told her to, but now she is off her leash.

But she isn't coming for you like she was before.

Beth is the one in her path, and Beth is too brave for her own good. She doesn't realize what's about to happen.

You have to do something.

You can try to take Adella out, or you can try to get in the way.
