Chapter 90

What does Spencer say?
There's always tomorrow
"Uhh... I mean..." Spencer's eyes darted away from Evelyn.
"It's okay to say no Spence. You're more than allowed to have some time to yourself."
"I think I'd appreciate that."
"No problem. I mean there's a reason they invented vibrators."
The two shared a chuckle before Evelyn gave Spencer a hug. "I mean there's always tomorrow."
"Sure. See you soon Spence."
"See you Evie."
She then kissed him on the cheek. "Love you Spence."
"Love you too."
Evelyn then left Spencer's place and got back to her duties. The rest of the day proved to be dull, especially without the late afternoon visits to Spencer's she'd grown accustomed to. Still, the fact those visits will continue gave her some relief, and so did her vibrator when she got back home.
The next day, Evelyn finished off her lunchtime sandwich before pulling out her phone.
'hey Spence hows it going?'
'not so good'
'what happened?'
'Amy sprained her ankle'
'shit. how badly?'
'she's fine its only minor'
'good to know Ill come over and visit her'
'okay but make sure to keep your clothes on ;)'
'sure will'
Evelyn put her phone away slightly disappointed. Still, she'd still get to spend time with Spencer, and there was always tomorrow.
Wednesday had been a quiet day, but for once Evelyn didn't mind. That all changed when the call came over the radio for a vehicle accident. With a begrudging sigh, Evelyn answered the call. As she drove towards the location, she hoped that it was just a mere overreaction and nothing major. Upon nearing the accident, she found a deer had decided to take on a pick-up truck. The truck won, and the driver had only suffered minor cuts. Unfortunately, both the deer and Evelyn's hopes of getting off early were killed upon impact.
Evelyn wondered if she was going crazy when she considered pulling desk duty rather than stick to being on patrol. It's only when she reminded herself that she might still get stuck behind the desk with overtime as she deals with some mundane complaint that she decides against it. Unfortunately for her, she found herself dealing with a divorced couple sorting through a storage unit. Not only did it serve as an ugly reminder of her own divorce, but it dragged well past the end of her shift.
When Friday came around, Evelyn took some solace that at least she'd have the house to herself, and she'd be able to invite Spencer around. Still, she hoped that she'd finally leave her shift on time. Her morning proved to be quiet, but halfway through her sandwich, she got a call over the radio.
"Dispatch to all available units. Requesting assistance in setting up a roadblock on the Greater Carter Road."
"This is Bravo 121 responding, over."
Evelyn drove to her destination, being fed more information on the way. The suspect was fleeing from the Cherryville Sheriff's Department in a red sedan, and was wanted for ****. At the roadblock, she is met by Sergeant Barnes and two other deputies, their vehicles parked across the road. Before walking over to them, Evely pulled out her Mossberg 500 shotgun from the boot, and put a slug in the chamber. She then moved over to the other three, finding Barnes with a bullhorn in hand.
"Glad you could make it Deputy Brown." Barnes jested.
"Well someone has to be ready whilst you shoot off your mouth."
"Hey, I'm a lover, not a fighter."
"I think your three ex-wives disagree."
Barnes shook his head before focusing on the task at hand. As they waited, Evelyn wondered what would happen next. Would the suspect wipe out on the windy roads leading to Avonwick? And if he does make it, will he surrender, or will he put up a fight?
What's next?
