Throw bullets at him!

You dig your hand into your pocket in desperation. Taking out a scoop of bullets, you throw the handful right into his face. Haha! Oh no, it didn't do anything. You squeeze your eyes shut as he levels the primed crossbow at your chest -- this close, this is gonna really, really hurt....!!

"Bang." He says. You peek open one eye to look at him. Oh, what? He's lowered the crossbow again and is smiling down at you. "Hey, that was a lot of fun! We should totally go again sometime."

.....What? That's it? He's not going to finish you?

"Fighting monsters is gonna be way different, but it was nice to get a feel for our weapons, hey?" He's still smiling as he removes the bolt from the crossbow, stows it, and starts undoing the straps of his armour. This is a weird feeling. On one hand, you didn't get shot again! On the other, you think this means you lost? It's also a bit insulting that he didn't finish you off! It would've hurt a lot, and breathing would be hard for a few minutes, but.... no, actually, never mind, that was a good call by him. Still, you need to make sure of something.

"Ummm... did I lose?" You tilt your head, digging your hand into your pocket and grabbing another fistful of bullets just in case you didn't.

"Only a little bit. But hey, shooting at me like that to **** me down was a really great move! If you'd saved one of your shots, you'd have totally had me."

...Yeah, he's right, you had him on the ropes. If anything, this was a tie.

Well then, that was a really abrupt ending, but you guess it was realistic. Plus, for a little thing in your Free Time, it was pretty fun! And you know what to expect from combat now. You take a few minutes on your hands and knees picking up all of the scattered bullets -- oh, some went in the pool. You might just leave those ones.
