Chapter 6 by Yabusa Yabusa

What do you want from these two?

Tell me everything!

"I need to know everything. Not just what's in the science papers, everything about you two, what you can do, how I fit into all this... just, everything." You slumped in your chair a little, as the two scrambled to the other side of the room, getting in front of the wall display.

Zoe and Chloe were prepared for this. Since this wasn't their first time introducing themselves to hosts within Hideki Labs, they had a presentation. They even had a PowerPoint to accompany it, to indicate how routine this was.

"We'll bypass the big details, but Chloe and I were created from Project Inside Out two decades ago when the scientists were trying to come up with some new biomedical breakthroughs. All the stuff you work on today is an offshoot of what we do." Zoe brought up on a screen a long timeline of the work that had started with Project Inside Out, and then all the different projects that came from it.

Chloe glided over next to Zoe. "Right, and they wanted intelligent beings that were, well... human-adjacent. But able to do things to and for humans that modern medicine still can't match. Zoe heals from the outside, I heal from the inside, we were designed to work in tandem to fix up a body for, say, a week, and then move onto the next patient. We did a good job but people flip out at seeing us in action, blah blah blah, project gets cancelled." She clicks the presentation over to a big frowny face on the screen.

Zoe steps around the table, pulling up other items on the displays--videos of the experiments they ran, showing the slime and bodysuit in action. "We stuck around, though. We're the biggest experts on the breakthroughs that came from us, after all. But we've got unique challenges... in order to do what we do, we're a bit, well, incomplete as beings. We were designed to not need to eat normally, a normal digestive system would make our abilities impossible. So, we were designed to be, uh... parasites is the technical term."

"Well, symbiotes, when we can give something in return to a body. Which, we constantly do!" Chloe said.

You open your mouth to ask a question, but Zoe was too quick, and seemed to know precisely what you were going to ask. "Yes, part of why you're here, Emily, is that we need to be able to absorb energy from someone, and it's so much easier if that someone is agreeable to it. We can go three days independent for every one day attached, up to three weeks of energy storage. We've had long-term hosts in the past, but..."

"But you're the first that Zoe's really attracted to," Chloe said with a snicker.

Zoe turned back to her, pointing an accusing finger. "You're one to talk! You're the one talking about all the romantic stuff you'd want to do with her..!"

You held up a hand before they could get too much further into an argument. "Please, that's not helping! I, uh... I don't really get it, but I appreciate it all the same. I guess. The attraction, I mean."

"Well, you're cute, for one, even if you won't admit it," Zoe said. "But, physical stuff to us isn't really important. Both Chloe and I can alter your appearance from the inside and outside, you could be pretty much anyone you want with us. We think you would be the one to most appreciate the things we can do, and that's really why we're so interested in you."

Chloe sits on the edge of the table, distorting the image of the screen when you look through her transparent body. "You're passionate and interested about the data and science that we just don't see from others. We have this innate drive to help people, to be worn or used by them in some fashion. And previous hosts, well, they loved that they could be someone else, or that I could move their body and show them all sorts of skills they'd never had, and we were happy enough. But they didn't appreciate us at the molecular level like you do--they just wanted an escape. While you, you theorize exciting new use cases for adaptive grafting and the smart gelcaps in every report you write! So, to us... we love that."

Zoe nods in agreement. "We do. It's stirred something in us that we'd never really understood before when we see humans falling in love, and now we want to, well, try a relationship. Sometimes we'd be three bodies, sometimes one, but I think we'd be something special together, if you'd consider it. We'll show you everything we can do for you, with you... and we want to do anything and everything you can think of. So... would you consider it?"

Will you date the slime-suit duo?
