You hitch a ride

You've been walking for a while now. Your arm extended, thumb up, begging for a ride. Not a single person stopped for you, but right as you gave up hope, a shooting star appears. A nice red sports car with tinted windows pulls up beside you. The window rolls down as the man inside gestures for you to get in. You oblige.

The man is dark and muscular, you'd say he was tall too but his posture makes it hard to tell. He is wearing a sleeveless denim jacket overtop his white T-shirt, matching well with his faded pair of jeans.

"Do I know you from somewhere?" The man asks as you get into the car.

"Probably not." You respond blandly.

"Ah, well the name's Marcus." He states cheerfully, his hand extended for a handshake.

"Tokin."

As you shake his hand you can tell he is transitioning into a very deep state of thought. Confused, and honestly uncomfortable you pull away from his hand.

"Did you say you were Tokin?"

"I did."

"Is your last name Habre?"

"How did you know that?"

Marcus slams on his breaks and throws his arms into the air.

"You don't recognize me?" He asks, his actions ecstatic.

"I'm afraid not."

"I'm Marcus Shaw... We tried to start a band in middle school... Ringing a bell?"

"You mean Xotic?!" You ask instantly remembering your old friend Marcus.

"Yes!" He shouts, now more excited than before. "It's been so long! I didn't even recognize you!"

"It has been a while."

"I don't think it was just that either. I mean you're way taller now than you were, you aren't wearing glasses, you starting to build yourself up. I mean the list could go on... You're clearly doing good!"

"I guess, yeah. How about you? You seem like you're doing pretty good to me."

"Oh yeah, great! I've been working for my dad's company for a while now, but I want to start my own thing. Y'know?"

"Not really."

"Well, anyway. I got accepted into this fancy place called Chronister College. You ever heard of it?"

"Chronister College?"

"Yeah."

"No way! That's where I need to be going!"

"You're going to Chronister too? Wild."

"For real."
