Chapter 117

Big Day! What happens on your date?
Mia has a very unexpected surprise.
Just like she said, Mia picked you up at 9:00 am in her car. However… well, you don’t say anything, but your heart is a bit disappointed to see Mia wearing a baggy, gray hoodie and blue jeans. It’s not like she looks bad, far from it, but now you feel like you’re a little overdressed yourself with your black corduroy pants, white polo shirt and denim jacket.
If your face gave your feelings away, Mia doesn’t address them.
You sit on the passenger seat and your date greets you with a short kiss on the lips. “Good morning. Are you ready?”
You nod. “I am. Where are we going?”
“Oh, just wait and see.”
“I don’t like the sound of that. Emma has made me watch some horror movies that start like this.”
Mia can’t help but laugh. “Of course she has.” She shakes her head and starts the car.
You make small talk as you travel, and it’s when you’re an hour into the ride that you notice you’re going to the next town. It’s two hours before you arrive. It’s now 11:00 am. When you’re going through the unknown streets of this new place, Mia reveals her intentions.
“Do you know what’s over there?” She points with her finger to a dome building ahead. “That’s a soccer stadium. Do you know who’s playing there today?”
Your eyes widen. “You didn’t.” You state.
“I can’t go with you since girls from the school are there, so I’ll go take care of some arrangements while you’re there. I’ll send you the location of the place we’ll have lunch, ok? It’s close, I promise. Say hi to Emily and Megan for me.”
Mia stops the car in front of the dome, waiting for your reply. Yet you’re speechless. You can’t believe she used your date as an opportunity to bring you here to watch the girls’ match.
You lean in swiftly and strongly press your lips against hers. She opens her mouth to freely let your tongue capture hers. She moans softly into your mouth, very much enjoying your reaction to her little present.
“You’re the best.” You tell her.
“I’m glad you liked it. Now go. The match should be starting soon.”
With one last peck on the lips and more words of thanks, you exit the car and Mia slowly drives away, waving to you as she does. You’re giving that woman the night of her life after this.
You find the entrance to the stadium, and you’re glad to see you don’t have to pay anything. This is just an inter-school tournament, after all. The place is big, easily able to fit 10.000 people, yet it looks extremely empty with barely 200 people in it.
You can practically sit wherever you want, but first you go as close to the field as you can behind the high fence. You see a bunch of girls there warming up. You immediately recognize the girls from your school by their red shirts and white shorts.
Your eyes catch the golden duo even easier. Be that because you know them from head to toe and that makes you able to find them even with their backs to you or because they’re so beautiful that they shine like huge beacons is irrelevant.
You see Emily sitting on the grass, stretching her legs with Megan pushing her back down to help.
You’re about to shout to them, but one of their teammates sees you first. She calls to your girls and points in your direction. Despite the distance, you see their faces light up. They both give their teammate a pat on the back and run straight to you.
“Who the hell are you!? Our boyfriend’s supposed to be on a date!” Emily asks, but she can’t help the huge grin on her face. She tries to pass her fingers through the chain-linked fence, so you do the same and hold her hard through it.
“Well, my date had a surprise for me. We drove here and she said I could watch your match while she got some things ready. She sends her regards, by the way.”
“Oh my God! I’m so happy you could make it!” Megan says, and you hold her hand just like you hold Emily’s. “Dammit, now I’m getting nervous!” She giggles excitedly.
“Score a goal for me, okay?” You ask with an innocent smile.
“For you? We’ll make it three.” Emily kisses your fingers through the fence.
“Don’t put more pressure on me!” Megan whines.
“You’ll be fine! Juts play like you always do!” Emily encourages her girlfriend with a spank on the butt. You hear the shouting of their coach, Ms. Miller, telling them to stop flirting and go back to the warm-up.
“Sorry. We have to go.” Megan apologizes.
“Don’t worry. I shouldn’t be taking up your time. Go prepare.”
“We won’t see you after the match, right?” Emily asks with a small frown.
“I doubt it. I’ll try to at least say goodbye though. I’ll be sitting there, just in case.” You say, pointing to one of the higher seats.
With final nods, your girls return to their warm ups and you take your seat. At 11:30, the match starts.
Now, you’re no soccer expert. Not by a longshot. But you have some knowledge of it thanks to a very entertaining soccer show you used to watch. You just hope they don’t take 20 minutes going from one end of the field to the other.
Yet even you, who understands very little of the sport, can see the prowess with which these girls play.
You see Emily, the team captain and center midfielder, shouting directions for her teammates to run ahead, fall back, defend and attack. It’s like every pass she makes leads to an even grander play you can’t predict. That’s what they call a playmaker, right?
Then your eyes are glued to Megan, the right forward, as she receives one of said passes and seems to effortlessly go through three opponents on her own, controlling the ball as if it’s an extension of her body.
Before you know it, she’s right in front of the opponent’s goal. She shoots, and the ball makes a beautiful arc as it goes inside.
You see your girlfriend fist pump energetically before she’s swarmed by her teammates in a group hug. When they finally release her, Megan looks to your seat and her eyes find you. She kisses the wristband you gave her and raises a finger to the sky. This is the first of three.
It’s been just 10 minutes in the first half and the score is already 1-0 in favor of Hayes.
When Emily find herself in- no, when she creates a situation in which she’s unmarked and with a clear path to the goal, she wastes no time in scoring the second goal. She does the same as Megan, kissing her wristband and raising two fingers while looking directly at you. You can’t help but laugh when she disappears into another group hug and you can only see her still raised hand.
On the second half, you almost start feeling sorry for the girls on the other team. They can barely do anything. Bad luck in getting Hayes as their opponents in the first round, you guess.
The most impressive thing you see is when Emily and Megan, from the middle of the field, start quickly passing to each other as they advance, unhindered by the waves of players the opponents sends to them, before Megan scores again with a beautiful shot.
They hug, kiss their own wristbands and raise their hands towards you, showing three fingers. You give them a thumbs up, showing you see them.
Odd that after that, Emily and Megan seem to stop playing their hardest. You start seeing the other girls in the team have the ball a lot more. Megan passes to them more often and Emily stops shouting as much.
Well, the end score is 3-0. The girls celebrate their overwhelming victory. You want to go and congratulate your girls, but they seem busy with their teammates. That’s fine though. They should be spending this day with their team.
Just when you think about just leaving, you catch them turning and looking your direction. They wave goodbye with huge grins on their faces. You return the gesture and send each a text congratulating and praising their performance before you leave the stadium.
You soon receive the location of the restaurant on your phone from Mia and start walking.
