The lamps go dark, leaving a silvery glow from your warding circle. Another flourish, and a few words. You feel a tingle all over. Aurelia is glowing, little flickers of foxfire licking from her hair and the fleece of her mound. You lift your hand before your face. You're glowing, too.

"Come to bed, young man," she says. "Come to bed, Eric."

Shining with your own light, you take Aurelia's hand and let her pull you into bed. The Tutor's words come back to you. Each first term, Ms. Sterling seems to find a cause to adopt some specially talented or troubled young pupil for extra tuition at her hand.
