You talk with Paige and Mona interrupts

You would have to deal with Mona later. In fact, it wasn’t even your problem as far as you were concerned. You needed to talk to Paige. She eyed you venomously as you made your approach. It was strange how Paige can seem both confident and mature and yet spoiled and insecure at the same time. She was a coin where you didn't know where it would land on some days, especially if you were someone she was interested in.

Her jealousy seems to increased her attraction to you and at the same time made you less likable to her. Paige swung on her hammock, and you started speaking to her, “Can we talk?”

“How did your conversation with Jenna go?” Paige asks, not bothering to look at you and just rocking on the hammock, staring up at the sky.

“I’m not going to lie to you. Jenna told me she is interested in me,” You say bluntly.

Paige turns to you and smiles at you. There is pure anger in her eyes despite her smile, “I’m so happy for you, Matt. Hey, I told you you would find love, didn’t I?”

“Paige, don’t be like that,” You say, going towards her and standing over her on the hammock and holding the harness so it would stop it's motion.

“I’m not being anything. We’re friends, aren’t we? I’m happy a friend of mine finally found love,” Paige says without the least bit of sincerity.

“Love? That’s a bit too soon don’t you think…. I told her I was interested in you too. Look, don’t act like you weren’t between two guys either.”

“You know me, tiger. I have my mind on one guy at a time, and it’s always the one that is chasing two girls. I think I just love doing that to myself,” Paige says and smiles.

“What do you want me to say exactly?”

“I’m not going to be your second option Matt,” Paige says in a brattish way and crosses her arms.

“Just yesterday, I didn’t even know if I had any options. It’s… give me time to work it out,” You pleaded.

“Hey Matty,” You hear a familiar voice ring behind you.

“Oh fuck me,” You groan. Good timing.

“Was that an invitation Matty?” Mona asks, coming to sit down between you and Paige. Paige glances and stares dagger at her but reverts her gaze back up to the sky. "I'm joking, I'm joking. Geez, everyone here is so tense."

“Hello, Paige. I’m Mona. Nice to meet ya.” Mona says.

Paige lifts one hand, without turning to face the newcomer or get off her hammock, in a salute, and says, “Yo.”

“Aww, are you still grumpy Jamie is gone? That must have been hard for you watching him leave. Though I’m grateful since it means you saved Matty here.” Mona says cheerfully.

Paige got up off the hammock, stood up and glared at Mona and spoke, “What the fuck is your problem?”

“Nothing. I just know watching you and Jamie... you guys had something really special, so I can understand why you are so sad right now,” Mona says innocently.

“You got a lot of nerve coming in here like this,” Paige says, her fist clenched.

“Me? I’m not the one who showed zero interest in Matt, and then all a sudden started “falling” for him when it turned out he was popular,” Mona says.

“Enough!” You say trying to get between the two women. “Mona, do you want something?”

“I just want to talk to you, of course, alone…” Mona says shyly, seemingly unaware of how tense the situation was.

“Can we do it later?” You say.

“No, you guys can do it now, I’m leaving,” Paige says and storms away.

"Paige wai- Oh goddamnit."

Sitting down and burying your face in your palms you thought, “Good God, why was nothing going my way?”
