Monopoly

You sit down to enjoy game night with your mom, dad and sister yet again. The night is young and it’s cold out, so everyone had the same idea in mind.

“Who’s picking tonight?” your sister asks. “It’s Johnny’s turn, right dad?” your mum replies.

“Yeah, go on son, which game will it be?” your dad asks. “Monopoly!” you respond.

Your sister doesn’t seem impressed at all. “OMG monopoly again.. how freakin’ boring bro! Can’t we play something different?”

You feel bad now that you chose monopoly, but maybe it doesn’t have to be boring?

“It’s my night to pick and I want to play monopoly... but, since I’m such a nice brother I’m going to propose a modification.”

“A modification?” your dad asks, now curious at what it might be.

“We play with real money. I’m not talking millions like in the game obviously, it’s not like we’re rich... but if you’re all game I don’t mind putting up a few thousand!”

Over the summer you’ve been working pretty hard, taking as many shifts at work as possible- and now your bank account isn’t looking too shabby. The thing is, it’s not enough for the new state-of-the-art VR machine you want to buy, so you’re happy to have a crack at making the money you need tonight - after all, your family is pretty crap at monopoly. You have won the last 4 games of monopoly so you’re confident things will go your way yet again.

“What kind of mother would I be if I agreed to play with real money!” your mom says, “Oh lighten up Janet, it could be fun!” your dad says. He seems to be into the idea.

“Well ok, but what’s the limit here? And, what if we run out of cash? Then we’re out?” asks your mom.

“Let’s each put in $2,000. I know we all have that at least. If you lose all your money then you can get it back through the game, that includes making deals with eachother. The bank will keep $1,000 from each player and the other $1,000 we each get to start with.”

You mom adds, “Oh, so I can finally get you to help out around the house if I give you say $50 in the game?”

“Yeah, basically.” you reply. “Ok, so are we all in or what?”

Everyone agrees, which kinda surprises you. Tonight will be epic - with a total of $8,000 on the line, you need to make sure you win!

To clarify, you all agreed to make some changes to the pricing system in the game. Properties are $10-$50, so your $1,000 starting cash will go a long way.
