You Come Up With A Plan

You're completely at a loss for what to do next. You only have two pokemon that you can send out, and Pidgey would get destroyed in an aerial battle against the rock type. This left you with Charmander, but his fire attacks would prove completely useless, and it's not like he could just Scratch through Aerodactyl's rocky skin.

Wait. Could he? You suddenly remember reading a text book about a year ago about the three traditional starter pokemon, detailing their move-sets, and you recall that Charmander actually learns a move that could be effective against rock types. The trouble is, you have no recollection of what level Charmander learns this move, and therefore have no idea if yours will even be able to pull it off.

But you have no other options. This has to work. "Go, Charmander!" You throw the poke ball and release the fire lizard, attempting to look and sound more confident than you feel.

"A Charmander, huh?" smiles Brock. "You fought well, Amber, but your battle ends here. Aerodactyl, Rock Tomb!"

"Charmander, dodge it!" you command, and your pokemon is mercifully able to avoid the attack, moving forward before it's crushed underneath the stack of boulders. This also has the effect of closing the gap between Charmander and Aerodactyl, meaning you're able to execute your plan.

"Charmander, use Metal Claw!"
