Chapter 19 by Alex_Jay Alex_Jay

What did you want to ask?

Are these pantemporal nonlocalities analogous to semipredictable harmonies in Baroque music?

"Ooh, Yes! Mentor me Kouhai!" she - Professor Jaunefleur, you remember now - exclaims in response.

For reasons not entirely clear to you - even with your new memories, the sense of humour doesn't seem to have translated - the class finds this uproariously, roll-in-the aisles funny. Even Shania spasms from her position against your chest, biting her fist and shooting you **** glances as she fights to keep composure. You're really quite unsure how to respond, sensing no malice from the petite professor but also not really prepared to have an auditorium of beautiful women laughing at... your expense? Her expense? You just don't get it unfortunately, there are clearly layers of cultural references that would take a long time to untangle.

Dr. Lafleur seems to think she might have made a faux pas, because she reddens slightly as she continues her explanation. "To answer your question, I don't actually get into ze theory of it at zat level myself. I just apply it to make cool succulents. But if you'd like to research parallels with musical theory, I suggest you talk to Dr Yang over in Temporal Physics. She's a leading expert on pantemporal entanglement and I'm sure she'd be very happy to help. "

You nod, make a note of it and prepare to continue following ze lecture, but she goes on, "And let me just say zat zis is exactly ze kind of out of ze box thinking zat I encourage all of you to engage in for your independent study. Jay isn't going to work in zis industry, but he's asking some of ze best questions of anyone. I hope ze rest of you have been taking notes".

Class resumes and you continue following it, your ears burning in earnest now. Who is she to decide you won't work in her industry? Granted you won't keep getting smarter indefinitely but...

Well. That's kind of a big thing to grant when most will. Still, that's not what you say to a clearly enthusiastic student. You'd like to give her a piece of your mind after class is over.

You catch Shania glancing at you from time to time as the class progresses, she can clearly tell that you were upset by the exchange. But there's no time to chat during class, and for yourself you're focused on... well, focusing, as if it'll prove some kind of point.

Eventually a soft chime announces the end of class, and the class wraps up - bit of a cliffhanger too, you can see why people read ahead. You have to admit, Dr. Lafleur's pretty good at her job.

"Do you have time to talk?" Shania asks as she gets up. "Imagination Park maybe?"

How do you respond?
