Shanaia nods, a cheeky smile stealing over her face as she glances at the petite professor. "Thanks Jay, you're the best" she adds, kissing your cheek before hurrying out of the room.

You wait until the other students have mostly filtered out, and Professor Jaunefleur notices you loitering. She gulps as she meets your eyes, slowing down how quickly she packs her things.

You make your way over to her. "Professor, could I have a word?" you say, and she nods.

"I'm so sorry about ze mentor me Kouhai thing" she says regretfully. "It vos unprofessional-"

"Oh no," you interrupt, "I thought that was pretty funny. I actually wanted to discuss what you said afterwards, about me not working in the field".

"oh, all right", she says, looking suddenly relieved, "vot about zat?"

"well... I thought that was unprofessional" you say, and the pretty professor cocks her head quizzically.

"but you von't vill you?" she says, confusion evident on her face. "Aside from ze time it takes to become an effective practitioner, I understand you are a true spankofile. Your talents are clearly going to be more valuable... no?"

You can understand why that's her conclusion, but having spent the entire class with this new world's memories you now know what you were planning on doing with your new-life before you found the rulebook. And Professor Jaunefleur, smart and wise as she is, happens to be wrong.

"It's not that straightforward" you say. "Suppose I were to get a few investors and set up my own bioengineering research laboratory, and take an active interest in the work of the researcher's daily work. What would you think of such a project?"

"I vould be interested in being vun of ze investors when ze time comes!" she said quickly. "A laboratory, run by a spankophile? I might apply for a job myself. But vot haz zat to do..."

You look at her levelly and she slowly nods. "Oh, I see. It is not so much zat you enjoy ze vork, but zat you vish to make a contribution..."

You nod, and suddenly her face drains of colour

"And I have publicly belittled your ambition".

You nod and she drops her head, horrified. "Oh Jay, I am so sorry. I have so enjoyed your participation in class and have acted very badly. It is no compensation, but be assured zat when I next meet my disciplinarian I shall ensure he does not let me off easy for zis trespass"
