Chapter 46 by ThomasMoro ThomasMoro

What happens next?

Missy and future Clara discover a clue

"Okay," said present Clara. "So we haven't caught up with the lady in red yet. Or at least the right lady in red. Where do Missy and I go from here?"

The Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come just shrugged.

"Again with the shrugs," said present Clara. "Can you at least show me where we go next?"

"Wait a minute," said present Rose. "I want to see what happens to me."

"We can see what happens to you later," said present Clara.

"But I want to see what happens to me now," said present Rose.

"We can see what happens to you later," said present Clara.

Then she turned toward the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come and said, "Now show me the next scene."

The scene shifted to what appeared to be an American college library. A middle-aged man with short brown hair was watching over what appeared to be a typical college study group consisting of one dark-haired guy, one red-headed girl and a young blonde girl who seemed to be even more slender than present Rose.

Missy's TARDIS appeared in the middle of the library and Missy dragged a **** future Clara out of the TARDIS. Future Clara, of course, was still naked and it seemed fairly obvious that this fact did not go unnoticed by the people in the library.

The middle-aged man averted his eyes, the dark-haired guy stared at her shamelessly, and the two girls just displayed expressions of shock and surprise.

"Who the heck are you?" asked the blonde girl. "A demon?"

"Heck, no," said Missy. "I'm Missy and this is my sla -- er, excuse me, my familiar -- Clara. I've come here to ask your group a very important question."

"You couldn't think of a more flattering term than 'familiar', Missy?" asked future Clara. "You make me sound like a demon."

"Well, I could have called you my 'apprentice'," said Missy, "but who would believe that?"

Then Missy turned back toward the people in the library and said, "Anyway, I'm looking for a mysterious lady in red. She has dark hair, talks to invisible people and carries a doll which she calls 'Miss Edith'. Sound familiar?"

The blonde girl nodded right away. "Of course we know someone like that. That's --"

"That will be enough," said the older man. "We don't need to give away information like that to strangers."

"But, Giles --" said the blonde.

"Please let me handle this," said the man whom the blonde called Giles. "Where exactly is this woman you seek and why do you want to find out so much about her?"

"Right now there is no telling where she is," said Missy. "She could be anywhere. However, she did manage to steal a magical talisman from my familiar here that will enable her to travel through time. More importantly, she also stole another such talisman that enables her to change the past."

"Change the past?" asked the redhead. "Such a talisman really exists?"

"Of course it does," said Missy. "I've seen her use it myself."

"My God!" cried the blonde. "You know what this means? We can cure Angel."

"Heck, we can bring back Jenny Calendar," said the dark-haired guy.

"Heck, we can even bring back Jesse," said the redhead.

"Who?" asked the dark-haired guy.

"Your best friend apart from me, remember?" asked the redhead. "He's the one who died and got turned into a --"

"Of course I remember, Will," said the dark-haired guy quite hastily. "But let's not talk about that right now in front of the strangers. We have a mission to plan."

And as the quartet of people put their heads together and began to talk amongst themselves, future Clara turned toward Missy and leaned toward her.

"You realize that they really should not be planning on coming with us, right?" whispered future Clara to Missy.

"Of course they're coming with us," whispered Missy. "If we're going to defeat this lady in red, we're going to need all the help we can get."

"But they fully expect to have possession of the typewriter if they win," whispered future Clara. "You and I both know that's not likely to happen."

"You and I may know that but they don't know that," whispered Missy. "But look on the bright side, Clara. The chances are that the lady in red will kill each and every one of them. You too, maybe. But I'll survive. Even if she kills me, I'll just regenerate and then kill her in my next incarnation. So win-win for us."

"Yay, us," whispered future Clara with a frown on her face.
