Chapter 28
by
Ben Rosewood
What does he find?
Some friends
Kal continued to walk with the girl. His eyes dart around the forest, looking for any potential threats. Even if the horde had broken up, any stragglers could be dangerous. He had about twenty minutes before he would tire, and he doubted the girl could do much more than give blank stares. As he neared the edge of the forest, he saw the abandoned wagons abandoned by the goblins. His head swung around, wondering if there were any stragglers. Finding none, he turned to Dawn and said "Stay here. I'll tell you if it's safe."
Dawn nodded so Kal moved forward to the nearest wagon. His ears picked up on the sound of someone rustling through some supplies, so Kal clenched his fists, anticipating another fight. When he pokes his head into the caravan, he sees a male Raptor rummaging through supplies.
"Hey." Kal said.
The Raptor snapped his head towards Kal, his hand reaching for a throwing knife. Upon seeing the Half-Orc, he cocks his head towards him, but quickly glances back at the chest, which he was much more interested in.
"You okay?" Kal asked.
"I'm alright." Poisonhook replied. "Just trying to find anything valuable."
"You sure it's safe?"
After a sigh, the Poisonhook turned around and said "Possibly not. I'm used to taking risks for money, though."
"Guess you're a loner type, too?"
"Not really. I'm used to working with others... though I did run away from home..." The clickity-clack of his lockpicking accompanied his speech.
"Well I'm just thinking that there may still be some goblins around. We need to get out of here. Southmarch is nearby and we'd stand a better chance together."
"You're probably right... I'm nearly done looting, though."
Kal's face crumpled up in frustration, as Poisonhook lifted the lid of a chest. "Fine."
"No, I mean it. As soon as I grab the valuable stuff, I'm outta here." He gestured at the now opened chests. "Want to help me sort?"
"I've got a better idea." Kal turned to the treeline away before shouting "Come over here Dawn."
Poking his head out of the wagon, Poisonhook asked "Who's Dawn?"
Right on que, the human mage left the tree line.
"That's Dawn." Kal stated.
Poisonhook looked at the approaching figure, appreciating the skimpiness of her outfit. "So that makes four of us."
Glancing to Poisonhook, Kal asks "Four?"
"There was an elven archer around here as well. Last I saw, she was fighting a goblin warrior... which I think I killed."
That's when Dawn looks to the left of the wagon. Kal moved to see the Marinelle riding her horse towards the wagons.
"Looks like she's still around." Kal stated.
"How is she?" Poisonhook asked.
Kal glanced at Marinelle's toned legs, noticing the blood leaking out of one of them. "Injured."
"Eh.. I hope I didn't accidentally cause that..." Poisonhook's statement made Kal raise an eyebrow.
"I guess we'll find out."
