Boss Battle!

With the boss monster now standing at its full height, John cast Observe on it as it began to turn towards them.

Standing at 2.2 meters in height, the Shogun is the most powerful grass warrior of its type. Due to it being made of tough grass that is magical in origin, it is capable of adapting to its immediate threats.
Due to the nature of its underlings’ deaths, this variation now has partial resistance to the dark and fire elements.
Attributes: Fire Resistance 5, Dark Resistance 4

“I don’t think it’s a good idea for you to fight that thing; it’s resistant to both fire and darkness,” he told Blair as the Shogun sheathed its katana. At first John was confused as to why it would put away its weapon when it knew they were both there. However, as blue light began to emit from the inside of its scabbard, years of watching anime told John what was coming next.

“Get down!” John yelled as he grabbed Blair and jumped off the tree. They were both a few meters above the ground, and John put his body under Blair’s so that he would take the brunt of the fall damage. As they were in the air, John saw blue energy in the shape of a crescent moon fly above them, cutting right through the part of the tree where they had been sitting like it was butter. They landed on the ground with a thud.

As he groaned, John slowly got up while Gamer’s Body did its job and repaired any and all physical damage he took from the fall. He looked to Blair, and glanced back towards the Shogun as it began to slowly approach them. Whether it moved at that speed because it was simply that slow or it was choosing to, John did not know.

Both of them now off the ground, they crouched down a bit, and hoped that the smoke still in the air might obscure the Shogun’s vision a bit. With a signal from Blair, they both began to slowly move away from the tree, using the smoke in the air, and the grass that hadn’t been caught by the flames yet as cover. They looked back; the Shogun was still approaching the tree, which meant that it must have not noticed them and assumed they were still there.

“Alright, when I cast Observe on it, it told me that the boss had a fire resistance of five and a dark resistance of four. Problem is, I have no clue if five means five points, five percent, or a fifty percent resistance. However, chances are that it’s one of those three. But in any case, I don’t think fighting it head on is a good idea. We should probably hide here until we can think of a strategy,” John whispered. Blair looked at the outline of the boss that they were able to see through the smoke, and smirked.

“Don’t worry about it. What you’ve seen so far was just me warming up and having fun. Here, let me show you what I can do when I’m actually trying. Just a quick question first: what level were the little guys earlier, and what’s the level of that big guy?” Blair asked him. She then stood up from their hiding spot, and took off her shirt, revealing her bare body to John.

“Nigrum est cor meum, et frigus. Igneus est clara atque meam. Sanguis meus consenti immolabantur propter virtutem namque pacto subscripsi,” she muttered. John recognized that the incantation she just spoke was in Latin, but John didn’t have a clue what any of it actually meant.

Her eyes turned pitch black as the air around Blair became hot, the sweat on her skin now vaporized completely. She turned around, and John noticed that on her back was a tattoo of a burning full moon. However, John knew that the tattoo hadn’t been there earlier when he saw her back before, since he doubted he would have missed something like that. John squinted his eyes, and realized that the tattoo wasn’t made of ink, instead it seemed to be comprised of pure shadow.

Blair stretched out her arm, her fingers positioned in such a way that it looked like a finger gun. At the tip of her finger, a small orb of shadow flame was created. After a few seconds, she shot the small orb from her hand, from where it flew through the air and drilled itself into the chest of the Shogun. After a few seconds, the bead of shadow flame suddenly began to rapidly increase in size until it exploded completely.

John gazed in awe at the massive and simply disgusting amount of damage she dealt. Even with the Shogun’s resistance, she dealt enough damage that it would have killed John four times over with damage left to spare. Quickly after that, a trail of smaller damage popups appeared in front of John as the Shogun writhed on the ground and continued to be dealt damage from the shadow flame that engulfed its body until it soon died.

Blair gave John a triumphant and proud grin, before she then fainted and collapsed. John immediately dismissed all the popups and quickly made his way to Blair’s side as he cast Observe on her to see her current condition.

He saw that her MP was completely drained and that her HP had gone down about a quarter as well, but besides that, to John she seemed more exhausted than anything. He picked her up, and with a little effort, carried her **** body on his back. With the barrier now cleared, he dismissed it as he carried Blair back into her home.
