An angel's prerogative

"Aren't you supposed to say 'wish granted' whenever someone makes a wish?" asked Jonathan. "Halfrek did -- even when the wish was one that sent her away."

"Well, here's the thing," said Justice Demon Amy. "I'm not Halfrek. I would think that fact would be a bit obvious even to you. Besides, what part of 'I don't consider myself a vengeance demon; I consider myself a vengeance angel' don't you understand? I'm not a fucking genie, you know."

"But you have to say 'wish granted'," said Jonathan. "It's part of your nature."

"I don't have to do anything," said Justice Demon Amy. "Unlike the justice demons in Halfrek's world, the vengeance angels in my world have a bit more freedom when it comes to picking which wishes we grant and which we don't grant. And you're not making much of a case for yourself by trying to piss me off."

"Come on, Amy," said future Amy. "Please don't be like this. He meant well. Jonathan considers Kennedy a friend. It's understandable that he would want to protect a friend. Surely a person who specializes in vengeance would understand that type of loyalty. After all, it must take a lot of guts to stand up to vengeance angels like yourself back on your home world. So why not cut the boy some slack?"

Justice demon Amy just looked at future Amy and laughed. "It's funny that you bring up the word loyalty. If you knew what Kennedy did in my home world... But you're right. This is a different Kennedy just like you undoubtedly consider yourself and the other Amy to be different Amys than myself. Okay then. Wish granted."

And just like that, Kennedy could talk again.

"About time," she said. "Hey, I can talk again. I can talk."

"Of course you can talk," said Justice Demon Amy. "Now, don't you people owe me a wish now? For Anya's sake?"

Justice Demon Amy pointed to the white rabbit on the library check-out counter.

"Wait a minute!" cried Kennedy. "You want us to help you change Anya back into a human?"

"Well, not necessarily a human," said Justice Demon Amy. "But rather a human-shaped justice demon."

"Are you crazy?" asked Kennedy. "Anya not only did nothing to keep Cordelia from hitting me, but she even joined in and started hitting me with her own purse. Then she kicked me in the head. The last thing I want to do right now is help Anya!"

"Kennedy," future Amy started to say.

And then she said, "Wait. Anya really did that?"

"Yes, she did that," said Kennedy. "And because of that, I hope that she stays a rabbit forever."

"You don't really mean that," said Halfrek with a dark expression on her face.

Kennedy turned and smiled. "As a matter of fact, I don't, Halfrek. I wish that Anya would stay a rabbit forever. Now bite me."
