Crossing The Street

Alice shook her head. “Whatever. I don’t need her! I’m almost there anyways!” She thought, determined. Alice quickly bolted across the bridge.

As soon as she had made it across, she hid behind a small group of shrubs, and surveyed her surroundings.

In front of her, were a line of shops, a road with a constant, unending stream of cars, and a countless number of people walking on each side. She shrank into the bush, nervously searching for her aunt’s. She finally noticed it, at the corner of the intersection about fifty yards to her right. Not only would she be in plain view of that many people, but she would also have to cross the street, meaning she would have to wait for the light to change! She shuddered, but couldn’t help but notice... a smile? She shook her head, and focused with pinpoint precision on the task at hand.

She took a deep breath, and counted. “1... 2... 3...Now!” She thought, darting out from the bushes. She had placed her hand over her bush, and arm across her breasts. As soon as she had jumped out, she startled all those around her. The two men immediately in front of her continued on as if nothing had happened, one stealing a glance towards her. Alice quickly sprinted down the sidewalk, people looking at her from all directions. Her face flushed bright red, as she passed a group of women carrying shopping bags. One of them shouted back towards her “Hey, stop!” Alive ignored her, and kept going. She ran by a woman pushing her baby stroller, who gave her a curious, befuddled look.

At long last she reached the crosswalk, desperately pressing the button with her hand. She stood motionless, now embarrassed to a new, mortifying extent. Everyone who walked behind her had a clear view of her uncovered rear, and everyone across the street from her could see her front, only weakly concealed by her hands. Even from the sides, you could see her curves, offering the walkers along the path an almost unobstructed view of her nude form. She tensed up, every second seemed like hours as she felt eyes crawling all over her.

Most pretended they didn’t notice her, moving along. Occasionally, someone would walk by and give a huff in her direction, or laugh and point towards her nude form. Alice began looking around wildly, wondering why the light hadn’t turned yet. It had been over a minute, and the light hadn’t changed. Nervously, she approached a woman wearing a light blue sports bra, and black athletic shorts. The woman looked towards her, and amusedly raised an eyebrow.

“E-excuse me? Ma’am? Does this light work?”

The woman looked curiously at the light, and nodded her head. “Oh it works, it just takes a while for it to change. Are you alright?” She asked curiously.

Alice nodded her head awkwardly. “Yes...I lost a bet.” She lied, with a slight, embarrassed shrug.

The woman shook her head, smiling. A car horn honked, seemingly at nothing. “Alright then. Good luck!” She said to Alice, continuing her run.

As soon as Alice turned around, the light had shifted green. Many people began crossing the crosswalk, herself included. She brushed shoulders with several passersby, and heard someone around her exclaim “Oh!”

As soon as Alice broke free of the crowd, she reached for the door handle of her aunt’s, thankful to finally be free of her endeavor.
