Chapter 17 by Ben Rosewood Ben Rosewood

How are Kal and Dawn coping?

Fortune favors the bold

Kal got onto his feet as he saw the chaos that had befallen the goblins. Someone nearby had started releasing prisoners who were revolting against their captors. That's when the pounding footsteps of a mounted warrior hit his ears. Kal locked eyes with the goblin, who he presumed was leading the numerous goblins approaching him and the woman. With iron resolve, Kal charged forward. He's certain that the there would be no escape, only a brutal fight. Being outnumbered, he figured there was only one way to win: Kill the pack leader.

As he moved forward, he focused mana around his feet, and his right shoulder. The technique was often referred to as Zealot's Charge and was historically performed by **** martyrs charging into battle to take out whoever they could. In a lot of ways, it was a similar situation for Kal. If he succeeded he might make the other goblins flee. At the very least he would be a distraction allowing others to run or fight. Then again, if he missed his target, he would be in the middle of a pack of blood-thirsty goblins.

When Kal neared his target, the goblins circled him. The Trok snapped its jaw as the warrior riding him raised his bastard sword, eager to cleave a chunk out of the charging half-orc. Kal dashed along the ground with lightning speed as the warrior turned his Trok, ready to swing his sword. Whilst the blade traveled through the air, Kal turned his shoulder to his target and crashed in the side of the Trok. The powerful blow shatters the Goblin's leg and the Trok's ribs, making a sickening yet satisfying snapping sound. An explosive shockwave ripped throughout both of their bodies, rupturing internal organs and snapping bones. Both collapsed to the ground trying desperately to gasp unneeded air with broken lungs before blacking out. The pure **** of the blow sent chunks of bone and armor to fly in every direction, striking the three surrounding goblin skirmishes. They hiss as Kal turns around and bellows "Come on you cunts!"

The wounded goblins, having just witnessed the display of Kal's power, start running for the hills. Whilst they flee, Kal scans the battlefield, seeing more goblins heading for an easier target: the woman who had tried to help. After catching his breath, Kal takes chase. With each step, he begins to realize that he's no match for the pace of the beasts they are riding. At this point, he was certain the woman was on her own.

Can Dawn fend for herself?
