Complications

"Wow!" exclaimed Kennedy. "Anya's a vampire!"

"Sure you said that loud enough, Kennedy?" asked Vamp Buffy. "Half of Paris didn't hear that."

The Count nodded in Anya's direction and said, "Should I have my servant here fetch you some refreshments, mademoiselle? We have some nice otter blood available."

"No, thanks," said Anya. "I'm good."

"I just realized something," said Buffy. "If Anya no longer has her powers, that means the curse is broken. Hand me that sweater, Amy."

"Wait, Buffy," said Anya. "That's not a good idea."

"Of course, it is," said Buffy, putting on the sweater Amy had given her. "What could go -- Ow! What the hell, Anya?"

"I did warn you," said Anya as Buffy reluctantly threw off the sweater she had gotten from Amy.

"I don't get it," said Buffy. "Why is the nudity curse still in effect?"

"Well, for one thing, I'm not necessarily the same Anya who cursed you in the first place," said Anya. "After all, I do come from a different world, Buffy. And as long as that Anya has her powers, the curse is going to stay in effect, no matter what happens to me."

"I don't suppose you could help me find that other Anya?" asked Buffy.

"Maybe," said Anya. "But even if you catch up with her, she might do the same thing that I did when I first lost my powers."

"What's that?" asked Buffy.

"I passed the curse on to a justice demon friend of mine," said Anya. "You see, I made a wish and then --"

"Yes, I get it, Anya," said Buffy. "So what? We'll just track down this friend of yours and --"

"That won't work," said Anya. "She pictured you doing just that so she had a human acquaintance make a similar wish with one of her justice demon friends. And that justice demon did the same thing with one of her justice demon friends and so on and so on."

"Wait!" exclaimed Buffy. "How many versions of the nudity curse did your vengeance demons put on me in your world, anyway?"

"Justice demons," said Anya.

"Okay, justice demons," said Buffy. "Anyway, how many versions of the curse?"

Anya shrugged. "You don't want to know."

"Well, it couldn't have been that many," said Buffy. "And anyway, I have a witch -- okay, two witches -- to help me now so I suppose we can just track them all down and make them end the curse. So how many vengean -- er, justice demons are we talking about here? Ten? Twenty? Thirty?"

"Actually the last count was 666," said Anya. "And that was six months ago. I'm sure the number is much higher now."
