Chapter 14 by Rbhy2 Rbhy2

What next?

Finally at the markets...

You and Sir Roland leave the noble quarter at last, you think back on the the family of beggars one last time as you enter the grand square of your city. You ponder what their new lives will bring them and the thought brings a smile to your face...

The royal markets spread out before you as you enter the plaza, wares and goods from your kingdom and the neighboring areas are being sold as far as the eye can see... Merchants surround the great stone column that supports your citys' foundation much in the same way that they support the grand economy that flourishes in your kingdom. Alone a merchant carries little power in your lands, but together their class bears an almost equal weight as your word.

You and Sir Roland stroll past the various stalls passing time before your meeting browsing wares and chatting with the commonfolk. As you walk through, you pass by the **** market...

You see the various people, mostly debtors from your own kingdom but also people captured in raids from various tribes that your armies had warred with... You think back on your fathers abhorration with the practice and how he had fought to end it throughout his rein, but the power of the merchant class meant that concessions were all that could be gained. He had allowed to practice to continue but had put an end to child slavery throughout his lands. The abolititionist movement cheered for him and the merchant class was pleased to continue their profiteering. You look closer at the various peoples in chains on display...

A few men and women from the southern tribes, stand tall, not humbled in a bit by their situation as they hated the civilization your people had brought to them under your direction. Their tanned skin and musculature bodies show the harshness of life in their lands. They would make for fine field labourors in the plains outside of the capital you think to yourself.

You see several woman from the ice fields to the north as well. Their pale skin as white as the snow they grew up playing in and hair golden like the flowers that bloomed in the short norther spring on the tundra. They would make strong children for your kingdom or perhaps fair gifts for diplomats from the island nations you think as you continue looking.

What happens next?
