Through the plains

With options of a large forest to the north of the village or the rolling plains to the south, you decide to go through the plains. You know there are some small roving tribes that cross plains to trade or to herd that would be easy pickings, as well as a large city many miles in the distance.

Your long legs help to make great time as you jog across the hilly terrain. With the sun shining brightly above and a pleasant wind at your back you are soon farther from your village than you have ever been before. You pause on top of a rather large hill to catch your breath and take in your surroundings. Other than the vast hilly grasslands around you, there is nothing. No sign of civilization, of large creatures, of anything of note. You figure even at this distance, the threat of your village has kept others from establishing any foothold on the land.

You decide to continue onward, hoping that with more distance you can find something to truly kick off your pilgrimage.
