Head Back To Tomen's.

Chapter 15 by RicoLouis RicoLouis

I headed over to Tomen's shop where I was glad to see Hannah behind the counter. She smiled and blushed as she saw me come in. "Hey Hannah." I said as I leaned on the counter. "You took off early last night."

"Sorry, I didn't want dad or mom to find out. They wouldn't really understand why I did it." She shrugged as she talk din hushed tone. I had a feeling one of them had to be in back.

"You aren't having any regrets are you?" I asked.

"No, its not that. Quit the opposite really." She blushed. "Its just i am kind of engaged."

"And you don't want him to know?" I said feeling a little upset as well as a little relieved.

"Exactly. I just wanted to know what it felt like before I settle down." She smiled and touched my hand giving it a little squeeze.

"Do you love him?" I asked. I knew marriages where not always based on love but sometimes served as a way of strengthening bonds between two peoples. Much like the king and queens marriage many years ago.

"I don't really know. I like him and our fathers have been friends for years. The marriage would greatly help my family."

"Don't just do it for them. Your a good person from what I have seen. You deserve to be happy." I smiled and squeezed her hand back.

"Thank you." She smiled. We pulled our hands apart as we heard someone coming. Tomen stepped out with a little one on his back.

"Aw, good top see you lad. The wife said you stopped by earlier. Sorry I missed you. We were out making deliveries. So what brings you back by?" he smiled as Hannah took her little brother off of Tomen's back.

"I would like to get this appraised?" I said as I pulled out the knife from my pack.

"Nice knife. Kings forged from the look of it. Sadly I do not sell weapons so I would just be guessing but I have a clue who might know if you don't mind taking a walk."

"Lead on." I nodded and took the knife back into my pack.

"You got the shop dear?" Tomen looked at Hannah.

"Yes, dad. Go on." She nodded setting her brother on the counter.

"Bye Hannah." I smiled and she nodded before catching up with Tomen.

"So where are we going?"

"I know a blacksmith down by the docks, she apprenticed my son. She was a quarter master during the war. She is a little hot headed but she can make some damn fine armor. You might want to look for some while you are here. Least you have some bandit cut you open again."

"I will keep that in mind." I nodded. We headed down towards a part of the city I hadn't seen. The docks. I saw all manner of what many called demi-humans. Goblins, ogres, beast men where busy toiling away. Loading and unloading ships, repairing boats. Several of the humans, gnomes, and elves I saw looked to be merchants. This part of the city seemed different, more dangerous. Not somewhere I would want to be after dark.

"Hey there handsome, want a little two for one action." A female goblin, standing next to another, said as I passed an open doorway to what I could tell from the sign was most likely a brothel. We kept walking and stopped at a blacksmith shop.

"Ah, This my friend is the lovely Goza." He said as he looked at a tall woman who turned toward us. To my surprise she was an Ogress. Also known as an orq or orc. She stood as tall as me easily. Not very bad looking I guess if you didn't mind risking a few broken bones. From what I could tell from her shop it looked like she mostly did metal work for the boats.

"Hello Dwarf. If you have come to kiss my ass at least you are the right height." She said giving him a stern look which turned into a smile.

"Charming as ever my love." He took her hand and kissed it.

"What can I do for you?" She looked at him and then me.

"An appraisal. My friend here needs you to look at something. Plus he could use some armor." Tomen said and looked back at me.

"What do you got that you want me to see?" She looked at me. I pulled it out and handed it to her.

"Ah, Kingsforged. Very nice and not cheap." She nodded as she looked it over. "You didn't steal it did you?"

"No." I shook my head.

"I had to ask. I had a goblin come by yesterday trying to sell me a great sword he was dragging along the ground. Said it was a family heirloom." She gave a little laugh. "They would charge you three or four gold for it at the forge for this quality of work. I could buy it for say one gold if you are interested in selling it? Or we can take it out in trade in my shop." One gold. That was worth one hundred copper.
