When you TRY TO ACHIEVE YOUR GOAL, on a Miss, choose one:

• Miss the opportunity to achieve the GOAL. Cross it off and roll to GET OUT OF TROUBLE.
• Hand off the GOAL. Expend Pip's FAVOR and pass it on to her to complete.
• Try again. Roll to ENCOUNTER Pip at -1 to explain why it didn't quite work.

On the appointed day, Pip transforms herself, shrinking to doll-sized and hiding inside a warded silken bag. You do your part by taking the bag into House Leontes' dormitory, to a corner storage area near Augustus Sparling's old room.

The way it's all supposed to work is that Pip will do her magic thing, get the journal, and tuck it and herself back into the silken bag which you'll deliver back out of the House to a safe place for Pip to transform.

What actually happens is that while Pip is working her magic to un-knot the Forbidden Spell -- Pip didn't even tell you what sort of concealment magic this was -- along comes the Tutor, Preston Sharper, who summons you to talk about more proper things to do, to give you a good start in House Leontes as a belated, third-year transfer from Minerval. And then the Warden drops by thanking you for having bravely stepped forward to thwart the Centaurs, for if you hadn't, it might have been some time until the Assistant Warden could return, and then Asteria Hornbeam, taking you aside to earnestly say that if you wanted to come along with her to visit the Centaurs in less fraught circumstances, she could introduce you.

Your head spinning with an afternoon of being talked at, you make your way back to the corner of the dormitory. Looking around for Pip, you can't find her. You hope she's safe.

The next day, Pip pulls you aside after the noon meal.

"What happened to you, Woodbine?" she asks, obviously cross. "It took me hours to get out dragging that book, and me the size of a doll since I daren't use any magic in your House."

"Tutor. Then the Warden. Then the Assistant Warden," you tell her, filling in details of the last.

"Oh ho, so she might have been happier if we'd just let her get debauched by centaurs?" Pip says. "Fiddlesticks. Anyway, I've got the book, everyone is alright, and you're on your Warden's good side."

"We're square?" you ask.

"We're square," Pip says. She grins. "I did like it better when you looked like me, though."

"Oh, go on," you say.

• Track down Golondrina. She's the reason that you and Fay switched houses. Roll +BRAVERY(+0) to ENCOUNTER Golondrina. On a successful ENCOUNTER with lust in mind you can HAVE SEX, or you could ask her for a FAVOR you might want later.
