Chapter 5
Which season?
Season 2
In his cell, Grant had little to do but reflect on his mistakes. Time had given him perspective. He could see now, for the first time in years, what Garrett had done to him. How he had twisted and manipulated Grant, made him into whatever Garrett needed.
Grant would always be a killer. He knew that. But at the very least, now he could only kill people he thought were deserving, rather than anyone he was told to. All he had to do now was convince the team that he had changed. He didn't expect them to forgive him, not for a long time, but he wanted a chance to prove his good intentions.
He wasn't getting that chance anytime soon. Skye had only come down to see him once, and could barely look him in the eye. He disgusted her now. It made him feel sick, the way she looked at him.
Lying on his small, uncomfortable bed, Grant couldn't do much else but drift into an uneasy sleep, thoughts of how to redeem himself in the eyes of the team running through his brain.
When his eyes shot open, he knew something was wrong.
The world around him was distorted, the walls crackling like static. The floor beneath him seemed writhe and wriggle, while the forcefield in front of his cell blinked in and out of existence. This was some sort of strange nightmare, obviously.
"Not... quite." came a voice from beyond his cell. Grant's eyes widened.
"Who are you?!" He yelled into the air.
"I'm your salvation, Grant Ward. Your redemption."
"Well, you're clearly very humble." Grant bit back, looking for anything he could use as a weapon. The voice chuckled.
"I'm afraid you won't find any weapons here, Grant. Besides, you don't need any. I come bearing a gift, not threats."
"A gift?" Grant asked with eyebrows raised. Whatever was happening here, Grant didn't have any control of the situation, and that unnerved him.
"Yes, a gift. You see, I've been watching you for a while Grant, and I've decided that you're the perfect recipient for my present."
"And what exactly is this present?" Grant asked, wary.
"I suppose you could call it... truth."
"What the hell is that supposed to mean?" Grant insisted, but something was wrong. The walls around him were falling away, his vision darkening. He was waking up.
"This is going to be fun..." were the last words he heard from the voice.
