Chapter 25 by Mr Nice Guy Mr Nice Guy

Who is at the door?

The Kids!

"Joe?" the familiar voice rang out from behind him just as he was reaching for the doorbell, "What are you doing here?"

"I could ask you the same thing!" Joe laughed, turning to find his sister Samantha coming up the walk, "I was going to have dinner with mom and dad. I didn't know you were in town!"

"I just flew in from London," Samantha said through a smile as she put her bags down and embraced Joe in a warm hug, "I wanted to surprise them. This is even better."

"No George?" Joe queried. Normally Samantha wouldn't go far without the love of her life, George Hentleff. She'd met him early on into her undergraduate degree, a non-tenured professor of literature, one who taught out of passion rather than necessity. Like many of their peers, George had come from money, although the money George had made any fortune Joe and Samantha's family had amassed seem insignificant. Always marry up, their mother, Jennifer had always told them in jest. Samantha had taken it to heart.

"Georgie's at a conference in Ottawa," Samantha explained, a long-suffering tone in her voice, "I couldn't imagine a more dull thing to do than to follow him around, so I thought I'd come home! Think they'll mind?"

Joe laughed. "They'll be thrilled. Here, I'll show you."

Joe turned again and pressed his finger to the bell. This day was getting better and better!
