Alex Doesn't Initially Recognize His Kids

Alex opened the front door and saw a young man and woman standing outside. He didn't recognize them, and it showed.

"Hey, Dad. Look who showed up? Samantha!" the young man said, excitedly.

Alex blinked, confused. Joe and Samantha? But these two people weren't ...

Then it occurred to him. Tina wasn't their mother anymore. Jennifer was. So instead of having a resemblance to Tina, they instead had a resemblance to Jennifer, mixed in with his own, of course. And now that he really looked, he could see the resemblance to himself. But it was still strange. Were they even the same two people he remembered? Growing up having a mother like Jennifer might have changed them drastically for all he knew.

Samantha leaned over and said in her brother's ear "Maybe it's just me, but he doesn't look 'thrilled'. Actually, I'm not sure what that looks like. Confusion? He did know you were coming, right?"

"Dad, is something wrong?" Joe asked, worried.
