Mindy Works On Mending What She Can

Mindy took a few steps away from Brian and peeked into the kitchen, instantly she spotted Kenny sitting at the counter, his body slumped forward and his head hanging down so far he almost was letting it rest on the table. The girl wet her lips and stepped into the kitchen, "Ken?" She softly called out, her voice trembling slightly as she never saw Kenny in such a state before, "Kenny, can I...can I talk to you?"

Kenny let out a profound sigh and nodded his head, "Of course, Mindy...why not," He muttered back giving the girl the small opening she needed to approach him. Kenny lifted his sad, and almost tired eyes as Mindy took a position on the other side of the island in the kitchen, "What's up?"

"I'm not here to talk about me, I want to to know what's going on with you," Mindy replied while leaning forward, taking her hands and easily moving them over to take Kenny's right one, "What happened?" Kenny sighed again and wet his lips, "Ken, talk to me...please?"

"What do you want me to say?" Kenny replied in a monotone voice,

"I want to know what you're thinking; I want you to tell me the problem so I can help. First, you were so mad, and now you're...broken, it's not making any sense to me. I need to know what's happening," Mindy's eyes began to well up slightly as Kenny remained silent, "Kenny," She said in a broken voice, "I know I screwed up our friendship...I wish I could take it back, what I did to you wasn't fair..."

"Mindy," Kenny said while lifting his head, "I don't care about that, I...I don't blame you for making a stupid choice that night. You and I are totally good, I promise, we all make some dumb choices in life, and if I held everyone single one over you we wouldn't be friends," He weakly joked, "What's wrong with me...it has nothing to do with you,"

"So then talk to me," Mindy sniffed, "If I'm still that girl you trusted with everything in your life, then tell me what's going on so I can help you, or at least go through it with you," Mindy gently begged,

"I don't even know where to start," Kenny finally said as he shut his eyes, "Nicole tossed me aside when I got back here, all based off of Rachel's advice to do so. Now Rachel's shaking up with her, and this is all after Rachel pretended to help me...she told me to let Nikki go, and I didn't. I guess she got tired of waiting or something,"

"What?" Mindy replied with a set of wide eyes, "Oh god, Kenny, I'm so sorry...I-I don't know what to say,"

"Then JJ...he fucked Nicole when I left with Rachel," Kenny continued, her face tightening up slightly, "My own friend did that to me, helped lead the first girl I had ever been with away,"

"He fucking did?" Mindy asked as her brow began to furrow, "Did he fucking explain himself?" She nearly growled out,

"I didn't talk to him, and he hasn't come to talk to me," Kenny muttered back, "So I don't know what's gonna happen,"

"No, fuck that, we're getting to the bottom of this," Mindy snapped out while walking away from the counter,

"Mindy, just forget it, it doesn't matter," Kenny halfheartedly argued as he watched the girl leave the kitchen.

Minutes later Mindy returned to the kitchen this time, however, she was roughly yanking JJ in by his arm, "Ow, Mindy, what the fuck?' JJ winced before freezing as he saw Kenny,

"Yeah, that's exactly right," Mindy hissed to her friend as she led him to the dining table, pushing him down into a chair and crossing her arms, "You have something you want to tell, Kenny?"

"I..." JJ gulped as he looked between his two best friends, "I didn't know," He finally uttered out,

"Pfft," Kenny scoffed back while shaking his head,

"Kenny, I didn't know, I swear to god," JJ repeated while holding his right hand up, "When I showed up to check on Nicole, Rachel was already there, and she pulled me into the thick of things. I figured if they were going at it, then you two must have...moved on,"

"But did you check, man?" Kenny snapped back while looking over and staring at JJ directly, "Did you fucking once open your mouth and ask her about what she was doing? And even so, you think that it's cool to fuck a girl minutes after she breaks up with a guy?"

"Kenny," JJ replead with a slightly bewildered laugh, "I wasn't thinking at all, they pulled me into it, and I didn't know what was happening until it was already over. Then when Nicole told me about you two after the fact...she said she was gonna be moving on and wanted to do something more with me, and that's when I told her no! I told her I didn't want anything to do with her because of how she was treating you!"

Kenny's upper lip twitched for a moment, and he slowly got from his chair, "I fucked your sister," He started with a hard glare,

"Excuse me?" JJ replied while lifting out of his seat,

"Whoa guys, hang on now, cool off," Mindy interjected,

"No, no, what'd you just say?" JJ asked with a tilt of his head,

"I had sex with your sister," Kenny repeated, "Since we're being all honest, she came to me earlier after Nicole dumped me and let me know you factored into that decision. One thing led to another, and it happened," He continued, "But to be fair, I wasn't thinking at all, I just got pulled into it, and I didn't know what was happening until it was already over." He echoed JJ's words almost sarcastically, "Hey, but if it makes you feel better, we decided not to keep it up!" Kenny finally shouted out, "Does that make it cool, JJ?! Does saying that fucking help!?"

JJ's jaw locked, and he took a half step forward, his fists clenched, Kenny's nose flared out, and he stepped forward as well, staring down his friend with no fear, "Guys! Stop!" Mindy finally shouted out, "Will the both of you fucking stop for two seconds!?" The men continued to let out sharp breaths through their noses and looked over to Mindy, "What's this going to fix? Why do you need to fight each other over nothing? Kenny, Nicole was no good for you, she cheated on you with Brian, Rachel, and JJ before she finally cut you lose. Does it suck that JJ was apart of that, sure but is a girl like that worth ending your friendship over?"

"I trusted him, and he stabbed me in the back," Kenny shot out while pointing over to the jock,

"And you didn't when you had sex with Kailyn?" Mindy smoothly replied causing Kenny to foul up, "You're not completely innocent, and you know it. And JJ, if Kailyn made the chose to comfort Kenny earlier and they decided that it was a one-time thing, what business is it of yours? Are you going to run a double standard and say it's okay for you to fuck Brian's sister but everyone else needs to stay away from yours?"

"You heard how he said it," JJ grunted back while turning around and rubbing a hand over his brow, "He was trying to make it sound like...he used her,"

"No I wasn't," Kenny replied as she crossed his arms, "I just knew that it was a shitty thing I did and a simple apology wouldn't cut it," He muttered, "Kinda like what you did to me," The two teens went silent for a long minute, and Kenny let out a broken sigh, "JJ...fuck man, I'm sorry, genuinely," He finally said in full sincerity, "I was in a weird place, and Kailyn...it really did just happen, and it was only ever going to be once. I wasn't going to tell you because I didn't think it'd do anything but piss you off...which is exactly why I told you now, just to get a rise out of you,"

"It worked," JJ mumbled back as he turned back to face Kenny, "I really didn't know about you and Nicole, Kenny. And when she did tell me, I swear on my life I told her to fuck off, it doesn't make what I did right but any stretch of the imagination but...that's all I got," He shrugged, "I can't take it back, and I can't change how it happened, so it's either forgive me or don't, man," JJ finished with a small shake of his head,

"Could you forgive me about Kailyn?" Kenny asked as he lifted a hand and rubbed the back of his neck,

"Tsk, what's there to forgive," JJ muttered back, "Am I gonna need Brian's forgiveness for falling victim to Rachel's seductions? Kailyn and Rachel are people, they make their own choices and have their own relationships. Plus...I know you're not a bad guy,"

"Honestly? I don't even care about Nicole anymore," Kenny replied with a small shake of his head, "Mindy's right, she's not really worth it. Hell, I guess Rachel was saying it best when we were just a bad match from the start,"

"I don't know about all that, but..." JJ nodded as he stepped forward and extended his hand, "Yo man, just for real, are we cool?"

"Totally," Kenny nodded as he took JJ's hand in his, "And you're not...gonna kill me?"

"Not planning on it," JJ lightly chuckled back before wetting his lips, "So you're bugging over Zoey then?"

Kenny's eyes widened as JJ looked over at Mindy with a smirk, "That was my second guess too," Mindy agreed,

"How did you two know about-" Kenny asked with a confused expression,

"We're your best friends; sometimes we know shit about you before you even think it," JJ chuckled, "So spill it, what's happening?"

"Yeah, talk," Mindy smiled as the trio each grabbed a seat at the dining table,

"I don't know, the best way I can describe it, we're in a haze where I think we like each other, but she needs time to make sure what she feels is real. Meanwhile, I'm starting to crumble; I feel like she's gonna push me away, I mean, she just took a single room, you know?" Kenny explained to the pair quickly,

"How do you know she likes you?" Mindy asked as she rested her head on her hand, "Has she flirted, stared at you, tried to make you laugh...got drunk then had sex when you were drunk too?"

Kenny quickly let out a laugh, "No...I don't know, we've talked a lot and a few times...there's been a moment were we just get into this zone, and it all makes sense for a second," Kenny replied as he stared off for a moment trying to recreate the feeling for just a second, "There's this spark...or energy and then the way she kissed me,"

"She kissed you," JJ smirked, "Okay, so we're actually getting somewhere,"

"I took her virginity," Kenny whispered out,

"Oooookay, we've already got there," JJ corrected, "Seems like you two have just moved too fast and she's reeling. My advice? Just wait it out, things will mellow and once her head is cleared and thoughts are gathered, you'll hear from her,"

"Yeah, exactly what JJ said," Mindy nodded, "If I've learned anything over this trip, trying to **** things to work out will only make them fail and make you look like a complete idiot or an asshole...maybe both," She said with a self-deprecating laugh,

Kenny rolled his lower lip in for a moment and ran his hand through his hair, "So I just...wait? I shouldn't do anything?"

"I think so," JJ nodded, "She's clearing just trying to get some space right now, I say give it to her. Then before you know it, Zoey'll be coming back to one Kenny Clark, ready to keep things rolling," He grinned,

Kenny let out a long exhale, "Alright...I'm trusting you guys here...oh hell, I probably should, I've had sex with five girls this week, and I'm not dating one of them," He added on with a frown,

"Good god, man," JJ replied with a raise of his brow,

"Wow, seriously?" Mindy nearly gasped, "I...I thought that Kailyn thing was just a lie and who's the fifth?"

"I...you know, I'd rather just focus on Zoey now," Kenny lightly dismissed,

"Fair enough," JJ nodded as he got up, "By the way, she took a single room, I not saying it means much but...she could've bunked, but instead she got something where she could eventually have privacy with someone...that's all I'm saying," He said with a small toss of his hands as he walked from the kitchen,

"And you should probably cool your jets," Mindy tacked on as she too got up and headed towards the exit, "Try not to, you know, complete the set. I think it'd be pretty weird to be in a house where I've fucked every person of the opposite sex...don't you think?" Mindy asked with a smirk before slipping out the door,

"Uh, thanks, guys?" Kenny said as he lifted his arm and waved at the empty doorway, "Yeah, I'm glad we had this chance to talk, get everything out in the open, and work through our problems."

"Me too," JJ replied from the second doorway as he peeked back inside causing Kenny to jump slightly,

"Fuck, I thought you were gone," Kenny said as he held his chest before jumping a second time as Mindy's voice pipped back in,

"Me three!" The Asian girl exclaimed before she rushed away in a giggling fit,
