Chapter 58

What's next?
Return with your mates to live out your lives in their village
"Actually," Isabelle says, "I kind of want to go home, my human home."
"Are you sure?" you ask. "Won't they kill me, you, Miranda, and our children if we so much as set foot in there?"
"If my father still has any love for me in his heart than he won't kill me. I'll talk to him, and convince him that not all orcs are bad. We've lived too long in fear of other races. It's time to put it to an end."
With a nod, you say, "Very well. Though I don't trust your father, I shall support this decision."
You return with Isabelle and Miranda to their human city. Isabelle goes in first, to see her father, while you and Miranda wait outside in the nearby forest. After a few hours, Isabelle comes out and leads you inside to meet with her father. As you walk the street, you get nothing but uncomfortable stares of hatred. Fortunately, you have an armed escort, but you doubt they are willing to protect you, and are merely a formality.
You step into the lord's study, and he doesn't seems too pleased to see you again, but you show him the respect that any orc would show a mate's father. Bowing you head, and greeting him respectfully. It does little to impress him.
"Isabelle told me that you willingly freed them from your mind control. That you sought out a witch. Put your very life in danger. Just because you wanted them to live as long as you?"
"Yes, sir."
"Tell me why."
With a deep breath, you say, "Because I love them."
"And they share these feelings?"
You nod. "Yes, sir. They would not have remained with me otherwise."
Isabelle's father takes a deep breath, and walks over to a large window, overlooking his city. "This city has been standing here for two hundred years. We've relied on no one but ourselves. The people have grown to fear the other races, even elves. Though we have lived peacefully these two centuries, the people always fear that an attack is immanent. Whether from orcs, griffons, minotaurs, or elves, my people are paranoid of aggression from the other races." He then turns to face you. "What would they do if orc started living along side them?"
"I... I don't know, sir."
"They would panic, son. If I let an orc stay in my city, that would mean I would have to let the other races in as well. I'll let you guess what that would do."
"Would that be such a bad thing, father." Isabelle says. "We've proven to you that not all orcs are bad, who's to say that the other races are any worse? Think about it, a safe heaven for all races."
Isabelle's father closes his eyes and ponders the thought. Miranda then joins the conversation and says, "I'm sure that orcs aren't the only ones to take human mates. I'd bet that we'd be shocked how many mixed couples live happily together. Where can they go where they won't be discriminated against? Where they can openly express their love for each other?"
Isabelle's father takes a deep breath. "Very well, I shall give you a month. If, by then, the people have accepted you, you are free to stay. If not, then you must leave and never return. Am I understood?"
"Perfectly, sir." you say. "Thank you."
"Don't thank me yet."
With that you leave the lord's office, and hold your mates hands tightly as you face the people of this town. This is a new beginning for you, and you have no clue where to even start. Though you could ask your two mates if they could show you around. Or, it's been a busy day, and you are getting tired.
