"Oh, yes," Abigail says. "I actually know the Master of Devices," she says. "My older brother..." She trails off and looks to each side. "Actually my half-brother," she says. "He was apprenticing under Master Wayland. Spent more time in the forge than in his House."

She's speaking a little quickly. Just her way of speaking, or is it because of you?

"Oh, was your brother in House Leontes like you?" you ask.

Abigail pushes up her glasses. "Yes, same house," she says. "Actually he came in as a Beavertail and transferred over. Um, he was close to a girl in Beavertail, she was a year ahead. When she threw him over, he changed Houses and threw himself into his work. Graduated Leontes. Martin Poker. Different da to me, same mum. I'll go look up the Master of Devices and tell him you're my friend, then we can bring your wand in for him to look at."

The next morning, you hear from Abigail by way of a note forwarded through Anastasia that you should come with her to see the Master of Devices that afternoon.

"So, Little Wyner, you already have a girlfriend?" Anastasia says. "That's fast work. Or else she's a fast girl."

"She wanted to thank me for saving her a dip in the Chilly Tarn," you say. "And because she fell atop me and broke my wand."

"What, is she an elephant?" Anastasia says. "A flying elephant?"

You say, "No, I had to cast FETCH again because I was having trouble holding her out of the Tarn, and she ended up flying straight into me and knocking me flat."

Anastasia laughs. "Sounds like a flying elephant to me," she says. "Anyways, good luck with the wand. You'll need it soon."

"I need it already," you say.

"Haha, boys," Anastasia says. "And you're such a boy, Godwyne."

"Whatever could you mean..." you start.

But she's turned on her heel, leaving you with Abigail Churn's folded note.
