Stop at home first?
Nope. Does his duty.
Plans on visiting his wife are put on hold as Pete jumps back in the squad car and decides to calls home instead and the tired sounding Hannah picks up.
"Hey hon. Did you hear anything over at the Parker's? We got a call of some screams and loud noises."
"No, they stopped by to give us a bottle of wine they picked up from their last trip. A thank you for grabbing their mail. I'm in bed exhausted and Becky is next door at the Kirk's watching their son."
"Odd. Oh well I'm on my way to the park. Make sure to stay in tonight, lock the doors and tell Becky to as well. A lot of weird shit is happening tonight."
"Ok hon. Be safe. I can't wait to see you. Bye *click*
That was odd, Pete thought. Didn't say love you like she always doe. Pete shrugs that off thinking she was half asleep.
Pete reaches the park and shines a spotlight into the trees seeing if anyone is in there. Expecting to find nothing he is shocked to see a tall thin man, shirtless and covered in red that looks like blood.
"Fuck"
Pete jumps out of his car and yells out at the man. "You there! Come out here!"
Silence from the trees.
Pete pulls out his handgun. His nerves are on edge. Wondering if this man had something to do with the woman in the parking lot.
A branch breaking catches Pete's ear as a man leaps out of a tree. His hands were like claws and it looked like he had fangs. As the man was going for his throat, Pete whipped around and fired his gun twice. For never firing a shot in his entire police career on duty, Pete hit the guy (monster?) dead on. One shot hit his throat and the other in the lungs. The man stopped. The man creature should be down on the ground but he just made some sort of sound that was like wheezing and laughing. It was hard to make sure with the man's throat blown open.
The creature looked at Pete and smiled, showing his long fangs and started making that sound of hacking laughing again.
"What the fuck? That man (creature? vampire?) should be dead and it's laughing at me." Pete thought.
Pete raised his gun to shoot again but in a blink the man raced away. The two shots Pete fired after the running man missed completely.
Pete slowly walked to his police car trying to figure out what the fuck just happened and how to explain it to the bosses without getting mocked or put on "vacation".
