What does Rosalind want?

Her freedom

Chapter 25 by Odysseus Odysseus

With a single sentence Rosalind had destroyed your ego. You thought yourself a clever mage, now you felt like a fool. You sit across the priestess unsure of what to do. In your uncertainty, you simply said and did nothing. Rosalind however looked pleased with herself, she had outwitted you and was grinning, despite her best efforts to hide it.

Breaking the silence, Rosalind asks "who do you serve?"

"I serve myself. No one else. How are you so certain I am a mage?" you reply.

"All magicians have a distinct smell to them, they are easy to spot among the masses. The Prince-Bishop has it, my old mother superior had it, and you have it. You smell just like the magician who collapsed in the cathedral. You are him, aren't you?"

You cancel the illusion spell and revert back to your regular appearance.

"Now why are you here?" says Rosalind "and why have you been stalking me for the past few days?"

You tell Rosalind about the magic barrier flowing out of her.

"Fuck" she curses "the Prince-Bishop always treated me specially, guess I now know why. Why do you want to disable the magic field."

"I have friends who would like to meet with the Prince-Bishop" you say. "The barrier affects them, making them too sick to come near the city."

"Do you know how to disable it?" she asks.

"You’re eager to get rid of the magic."

"I had nothing to do with it. Either the Prince-Bishop himself or one of his followers must have linked it to me. That man does nothing but scheme, if you can get me out of his plan, I would welcome it.

“The magic fluctuates with your mental state. When you were reading romances, it weakens. If you did something more extreme, the magic field should wither away entirely.”

“Some of my romances are, shall we say, improper for a pious young woman like myself to read. If they can’t break the field, I doubt any written word can.”

“Well, we, we could” you say, struggling to articulate your suggestion.

“You think we should sleep together, don’t you? It makes senses. Some of my sisters have slipped away from our cloister to lay with men. One said she can’t think straight with someone on top of her. You will have to take care of me afterwards, once the Prince-Bishop realizes that the barrier is down, once he realizes what I did to break it, he’ll throw me out of the city. I took a vow of chastity you know.”

“I promise to keep you safe.”

“Well, then, I guess I’m actually doing this. Try to be more charming, I read a lot of romances, I know how a knight is suppose to treat a princess.”

“I’m not a knight.”

“I’m not a princess either, but we’ll have to make due.” Rosalind offers you her hand. “Lead the way.”
