Summoning class

During summer reading and class scheduling, summoning had really piqued your interest. The idea of summoning a creature all your own to command had sounded fun. Something like a golem or troll to do your heavy lifting would be awesome. Of course summoning a seductive succubus would have its own rewards as well.

You enter the class to find it rather full of students, this might be the biggest class you have. Scanning the room, you see three familiar faces. Harmony sat in the front row, as you had come to expect. She gave you a quick glance and immediately went back to studying the book on her desk. Lee from your illusions class sat more to the middle of the room. He was also looking over the book on his desk but hasn't looked up to notice you. Parisa from alchemy class was also seated in the middle of the class. She had noticed you walk in and was waving you over to sit at the empty desk between both her and Lee.

Your previous interactions with Harmony hadn't left you feeling like friends. So you opted to sit with Parisa and Lee. "Hi. It's cool we have this class together too." Parisa said.

"Oh, hey bro." Lee greeted you, finally looking up from his book. You noticed he was looking through the monster glossary assigned to this class and his book was open to some sort of slime creature.

"Hey guys. Its nice to see some friendly faces in a class finally. Do you two know each other?" You inquire as you take your seat. They both shake their heads no. "Oh well, Parisa this is Lee. We have illusions together. And Lee this is Parisa, my alchemy lab partner." They exchange pleasant greetings across your desk and you ask. "Have either of you had any experience summoning?"

"No." Parisa admits.

"I tried once during summer but all I managed was a small frog. I don't even think it was a magical frog or anything. Just hopped off to the woods and I never saw him again." Lee laughed. "Have you looked through the glossary to find anything you want to try?"

"No but Im thinking a golem would be cool." You said not wanting to bring up something like a succubus in front of Parisa.

"Being a pegasus, it would be cool to summon one I could ride." Parisa joked. "But a rose fairy would be nice. They should be simple enough to summon and I hear they will help with gardening."

"I'm thinking this slime creature." Lee gestures to his open book. "They can take almost any shape and do just about anything you train them to." He gives you a sly smile with a raised eyebrow as he says that last bit. Was he suggesting something particular?

The deep toll of the bell begins class and Professor Hobbins takes the podium. "Hello class, this is intermediate summoning. Those of you who took introductory summoning already know the basics of summoning circles but we will be going over all that for the other students who didn't take that class. Also there are some basic differences in the circles we will be using this year. So don't think you don't need to pay attention. Last year you worked with temporary summons of small creatures. This year we will be covering more long term summons and some with larger creatures." Professor Hobbins explains.

Class continues as the professor covers important details of the first two chapters of your book. Basics of summoning circles, variations to the designs to denote length of time a creature is to be summoned, and a breakdown how to read the monster glossary and define the creature you wish to summon. "Now, chapter three, summoning a familiar. This will be the lab portion of our class today. A familiar is a special animal linked to the wizard who summons it. You will not be able to choose your familiar. More like, your familiar will choose you. A familiar is easier to summon than most and with time will be able to assist you with your magic, be dismissed and recalled at will, and can sometimes be taught spells. Please refer to your books for the proper circle."

You didn't wait for professor Hobbins to finish and have started drawing your summoning circle. You refer back to your book wanting to make everything perfect. You wanted to impress your new friends and do better than Harmony. Something about that girl just made you want to show her up. Where your lines were off, you erased and corrected. You double checked everything and then once more just to be sure. You felt you were ready.
