Chapter 5

Should I call?
Call Jonathan.
Honestly, I’d be a lot more comfortable talking to a counselor, but I’d really like to get my courses taken care of as soon as possible. I’m not too accustomed to meeting strangers, but I guess this is my time to take a chance on making friends. Anyway, Jonathan was very nice over the phone, and offered to show me around his lab so I could get a feel for the material. I wait outside Gellar hall in a conservative light blue pleated blouse and jeans with my hair tied in a white scrunchie. A white guy with light brown hair and a heavy green jacket approaches and scans me up and down. He recognizes the clothes I told him I'd wear, and tells me so with a smile and a hello.
"Hi there," I say, shaking his hand, "I'm Alexis."
"Jonathan." His face is thin, yet still sports a sturdy bridge and heavy eyebrows, and rather tan for a white guy, like he's been out in the sun too much. In fact that's probably true, given how many trips he's been on, according to him.
Inside the lab, he shows me dozens of glass cabinets housing a plethora of artifacts, at least one from every continent, barring Antarctica. Some are jeweled ornaments, some are worn out tools, and some are tiny statuettes of ancient deities.
"This one looks like a voodoo doll," I laugh, pointing out a particularly crude effigy with excessively large nails hammered into it.
"Indeed," mutters the tour guide.
The walk around finished, I start to ask Jonathan about the expeditionary courses and other things regarding the major, but he stops me, saying he'd like to show me one more thing. Leading me to a discreet cabinet with wide drawers, he produces a ruby stud hung off a bronze-colored chain. It looks as old as anything else in this room, but is considerably better restored. The jewel itself is a perfectly cut diamond and shines beautifully under the lights.
"Wow, where did you find this?" I ask, taking it in my hand and admiring the craftsmanship.
"Egypt, actually," he explains, "just last year."
When I try to hand the necklace back to him he turns it away and suggests instead,
"Why don't you try it on?"
Major Decisions
Every choice leads you to a different kind of mind control.
