Chapter 14 by TheFallacyGuy TheFallacyGuy

How do things develop?

Bedshopping and new house rules

"Right, sorry to be all 'employer' about this, but we need to talk about how this affects our daily routine." you say matter-of-factly.
You have all sat down again, and are now looking at each other with excitement. All the tension and the emotional baggage have disappeared and you are all ready to start a new life together... a better one.

"Okay, first of all" you state: "Shared economy. I might be the one with the credit card and the stable income, but I don't want to hear anymore fuzz about me using money on you, okay?" You mostly look at Vanessa.
"You spoil us." Vee replies blushing.
"I like spoiling you. I really don't have that much else to use money on. If I make you two happy, I think it's money well spent."
"Okay, but we can't sit around the flat, just lounging and do nothing!" Vanessa counters.
You think for a couple of seconds.
"Well, you can do the household chores. Cleaning, cooking, laundry, running errands. That kind of stuff. If you do that while I work, we would also have more free time together in the evenings."
Olivia blushes. What is she thinking about? Probably something dirty.
"But your apartment isn't that big, and we're two about it. You don't think you are going a bit easy on us?"
Vanessa is great, and you hold her very dear, but this humble grandstanding is hurting your feelings a bit. You just want to make her happy. You think that she might be holding the exact same opinion about you.
"You've just been homeless for six months, you need an easy life right now. We can talk about this in time, right now I just want you two to get used to having a normal life again... well as normal as possible given the circumstances."
Vanessa eases up and gives you one of the most beautiful smiles you've ever seen. She then nods appreciatively.

"Okay, next we should probably talk about facilities." you say: "As in what you guys need and want. We need to improve the bed situation as Ollie so "succinctly" pointed out. I'm tired of sleeping on a couch."
"Right." Vee agrees.
"You girls need some keys to the flat as well."
"Yup." Vee agrees again.
"Next, you girls need a cell phone. It would be nice to get in contact with you when we are physically apart."
"A phone?!?" Ollie exclaimed: "Yes! Thank you!"
Well, that sure was a reaction.
"A laptop as well." you state.
Ollie looks like she is about to pass out. Hopefully it's out of excitement and not another fever.
Vanessa looks flabbergasted and slightly uncomfortable, but she promised not to make a fuzz, so she keeps her complaints inside.
"Also, Vee and I bought some clothes a week ago, but that was while we were under the impression that we would part. It's hardly a full wardrobe you guys got. I would happily keep lending out my clothes, but they are slightly too big for Ollie, and with the rate we're using them, we would have to do laundry every third day, so getting some more clothes for you would be ideal. My wardrobe is too big for all the clothes I have anyway, so there is definitely space for it."
"To be fair," Vanessa interjects: "I wouldn't mind doing the laundry that often."
Ah, sweet Vee. She just can't help herself.
"I know," you reply: "But I would mind having to listen to the washing machine that often. It's really loud."
"I wouldn't mind having the washing machine run often." Ollie says with a blush and smug grin. Is she being timid and snarky at the same time? How is that even possible? Why would she even want the washing machine to-... Oh Jesus. It now dawns on you that Olivia might be a huge fucking pervert.
"So, clothes, bed, keys, phones, laptops. That's all I could think of. Do you guys need anything else? It doesn't have to be a necessity, is there anything you would like to have?"
"I want a vibr-" Ollie starts.
"NO!!! I mean, no thanks Asta. That's all we need." Vanessa says as she smiles leading attention away from the horndog sitting next to her.

"Lastly," you sigh: "personal documents, ID's, passports, anything like that. What do we do there?"
You talk at great lengths of the prospect of getting new identification documents for the previously homeless sisters. Luckily they are citizens of Wisconsin, so that makes it easier. Since you are not married or are in a civil relationship, you need to secure their future by making a will, so your properties can be theirs in case something happens to you. It feels morbid, but it needs to be done. The room is filled with dread as these things get done.
After some hours most of it is out of the way, at least for the time being, and you can focus on the more fun activity of buying a bed.

You browse some web sites for bed options, while Vanessa and Olivia help each other measuring the free space for the bed in the bedroom.
You check your bank balance while you're at your computer. It's looking good. Really good. However, you can never help but frown every time you see it. Your bank account is split into two sub-accounts. The first one is the one your credit card is attached to. All of the money in there have been earned by you. The second, however, is dirty money. Well, it's not dirty in the legal sense, CIA agents aren't going to burst into the doors at any second now. If they did, they would probably just move in anyway, if the past week has been any indication. The dirty money is really just all the money you have acquired either directly or indirectly due to your family name. $72,688. It's quite a lot. You've always wanted to use that money for something good, something meaningful. You think, you've finally found something worth spending the money on. The time is not right for that though. Not yet. But soon, the deadline is approaching.

"79 x 84" you hear Ollie yell from the bedroom. Huh, your bedroom is larger than you thought it was.
Vanessa and Ollie join you in the living room. You close down the tab with your bank account.
"Well," you start: "That's more than enough for a queen size. We can buy one for you two, and then we can move my bed into the living room. Sure we would have to replace one of couches, and that's gonna suck a little, but we-" Olivia interrupts.
"Why can't we just get a king size bed, and then we can all sleep there?" she asks with a perverted grin. You give a small laugh.
"Okay," you start again: "joke's aside, I thi-"
"I was being serious!" Olivia pouts.
All three of you blush in unison. Well, maybe she is technically right, but morally you can't allow yourself to-
"Well, it would save up on space, and we've all seen each other in just underwear anyway." Vanessa chimes in nonchalantly.
Et tu, Vanessa? You can't do that. You didn't invite them into your flat to exploit them for your own sexual urges. No way. There are no way in hell they will be able to convince you to buy a king size bed.

Buying the king size bed turned out to be a remarkably simple task. The company delivers the same day and everything. Cell phones and laptops were a bit harder. Vanessa is not big into tech, and just got older models of Apple products. iPhone and Mac. Olivia, not wanting to be a "sheep" like her sister, as she put it, got a Samsung phone and an Acer laptop. It was an expensive haul, but the smile on their faces (and the kisses on your cheek) was worth it. Clothes were simpler. Vee got mostly slim-fit stuff. You found yourself impatiently waiting for summer where she would be wearing and sweating in slim sports gear. Ollie went with a more relaxed and loose style. T-shirts, hoodies, sneakers. Your apartment contract said that you could have up to five copies of the key. You weren't sure if that meant that you could have five or six keys in total. Didn't matter though, you only needed four. You got your reserve key, and went to a hardware store, where they made two copies, one for each sister.

Standing in front of what you can only describe as a mattress store, the delivery guys are waiting for you to lead them back to the apartment. You could just go home, but is there something else you need to get while in the shopping district?

Is your wallet really that much of a glutton for punishment?
