Fearing discovery, Druuna sat completely still with her eyes closed, trying desperately to avoid them looking in her direction.

Then, she heard one of the men let out a shout in recognition of something, and opened her eyes to see the man with the rifle pointing at her foot-prints.

Acting on impulse, Druuna sprung up and began to sprint in the opposite direction, leaving her belongings behind her.

The two men shouted to her to halt when they spotted her, but Druuna had no intention of heeding to their command.

Looking back past her shoulder, she could see that the two men were now running after her, still shouting for her to stop.

It soon became clear that they were gaining on her, and Druuna decided to change her course from running along the beach to instead head for the chain on low hills that ran along the beach.

The men were now roughly fifty yards behind her, and came even closer as she ran up the slope, but soon they were slowed down as she had been from running uphill, and the distance between them grew ever so slightly.

The hill wasn?t very wide, and on the other side there grew small threes and brush vegetation, and so Druuna headed that way, hoping that she would be able to hide.

As she nearly leaped down the hill, Druuna heard a loud crack and felt dirt being kicked up right next to her. One of the men had fired at her!

However, no second shot was fired before she reached the wooded area, where the distance grew as she could outmanoeuvre the two for shorter periods of time.

But still, she had not been able lose them completely, and unless she did so it was only a matter of time before they would catch her.

Suddenly, while the two men were out of sight, Druuna stumbled on a root and fell forwards through a dense bush, landing on her stomach in a narrow gully, a low thud was produced as she landed on the sandy bottom.

Before she was able get back up on her feet, she could hear the two men approaching.
