The Dean takes a hand

"Come here, Miss Cummins!" the Dean barks, before turning to you and moderating his tone. "What is going on here Mr. Carter?"

"I was trying...." the brunette blurts before you can speak, but Dean Hawkfeather cuts her off with another bark.

"When I wish you to speak I will address you Miss Cummins! Now stand there and be silent!" she looks frightened, but closes her mouth, staring at him in alarm. "Mr. Carter?" he asks again, softening his voice.

"Miss Cummins was berating these two students," you reply, gesturing to the two Middle Eastern girls. "She was bullying them, using racist slurs. I intervened and she was defiant, offering insult, and stating that her father would have me fired."

"That's a Lie!" Valerie shrieks. "He's a filthy lying drunk! He..."

"Be quiet Miss Cummins!" the Dean snaps, exasperation evident in his voice. "You're in enough trouble already!"

"Dean Hawkfeather?" a girl's voice says softly. It's Tiana, the willowy blonde who mocked Valerie's wealth earlier. "What Mr. Carter says is what happened. Valerie was attacking Rayhana and Safiyah, insulting and bullying them when Mr. Carter put a stop to it. Then she started threatening and insulting him."

"Thank you Miss..."

"Willes, sir. Tiana Willes." She smiles at him gives a sort of curtsy, her eyes glittering with malice as she glances at Valerie, who looks more dismayed and frightened by the moment.

"Miss Cummins, report to my office immediately," the Dean orders, pointing to the Mellon building and seeing her face start to crumple with anxiety. "Mr. Carter, Headmistress Naylor, if you could join me."

"Don't forget me," Honey Thibodeaux says softly. "I'm a witness too, and I wouldn't miss this for the world."

Before the Dean can respond, another voice is heard.

"Dean Hawkfeather? May we ask a question?" one of the two girls in headscarves asks. Dean Hawkfeather stops, nodding to the pretty olive complexioned girl to continue.

"Rayhana and I have been told that you will enforce the dress code, Dean Hawkfeather. As you can see, we are in uniform but we have added the headcoverings and pants. It is to honour our culture, not to diminish the uniform we are proud to wear. Must we remove them?"

You can see the Dean looking at their clothing, his face showing that he's seeking a solution to the question that will not compromise his stance. "Your uniforms are complete in every detail," he finally answers. "As long as that is the case, there is nothing in the Code of Conduct that states you may not wear accessories or additional garments. Your headscarves and pants are not an issue."

Ms. Naylor and Honey Thibodeaux give short nods of approval as the two Arab girls beam happily and thank him. He smiles tightly before turning towards the Mellon Building, leading your little group to its rendezvous with the spiteful Miss Cummins.
