First day as editor

The next day, you get up early to prepare for your new promotion. You pick out your nicest suit, then call for a town car to pick you up at the mansion. Ever since you'd come into possession of the magic rings, you realize you've been relying on them for practically everything in your life, and today you want to see if you can minimize your use of them or even go without using them. After all, even without them, now you still have the backing and power of The Organization.

The moment you step into the Tribune's offices, you can feel everyone's eyes on you, staring at their new boss. Not too long ago, you had to **** your way into a starting job here, and now you're the boss. You try not to smirk too obviously, keeping your eyes ahead as you walk through the newsroom to the editor's office. You're not surprised to see Laura Bylines standing right outside the door with her arms crossed. She looks hot, even though she's clearly fuming. Her assistant, Amanda is also standing there, although looking more anxious.

"Good morning, Amanda. What's my schedule like today?" you ask, purposefully ignoring Laura for now.

"You have editorial meetings in an hour. The marketing department wants to make a presentation to you with some new ideas later this afternoon, and you have tons of messages to return to people calling to congratulate you on the job, including the mayor, the governor, a senator, some CEOs, and the vice president."

"The vice president?"

"Yes, he was one of the first to call this morning." You remember that the vice president is also from New York and the current president is nearing the end of his term. He must be aware that you could help his election efforts.

"Okay. I guess I should call them all back and thank them. Anything else?"

"Uh..." Amanda hesitates, "Miss Bylines would like a word."

Chuckling, you finally turn to Laura and motion her to follow you into her old office. She closes the door behind her as you 2 enter.

"How the hell did you do this?" Laura starts off heatedly. Understandably, she's not pleased that she was suddenly out of a job, and that you of all people had usurped her throne.

"Let's just say I know some people, and they value what I can bring to the table. What do you want? A job?"

Laura seethes at your taunting words and doesn't say anything. You can see that she's considering whether to grovel and beg for a job. After a minute or so, she stomps her high heel and turns to leave.

"I still have those pictures of you," you say, causing Laura to pause as she reaches for the door. She stops and turns back to you.

"What? Why would you... You're already the editor! What more do you want to **** me for?"

"Well, editor of the Tribune is a lot of work, as you may know, and I was thinking I need to hire an assistant editor to help me manage the paper and handle day to day operations."

"So you basically want me to do all your work, or you'll publish the pictures of me?"

You grin. "Not so fast. I didn't say you have the job. You'll still need to interview for it."

"ARGGH!! What?!?" Laura screams so loudly that you're sure everyone outside your office heard. "Fine! Let's do this." She marches pass you and grabs a chair and sits down, tapping the armrests impatiently with her fingernails.
