The Warden smiles. "I'm happy to hear your intentions toward my charge are from genuine friendship," she says, pausing to watch you and Fay react. "But why should I let you into my House?" She tilts her head and looks at you with amused suspicion. "Given what your intentions could mean to an impressionable first-year?"

Fay swallows and searches Barbara Torch's face. "So you can ... keep an eye on us?" she says.

Barbara Torch inclines her head toward Fay. She pauses. You and Fay stay quiet. "Since Miss Redmoor has indicated that your attentions are welcome, I consent to supervise your activities when you come to visit her in House."

Fay's chair squeaks on the floor, but she says nothing.

The Warden smiles. "Given Euryale's and Whiplash's attitudes toward Minervals mixing with the likes of us Leonteans, particularly within House Minerval, it seems you would otherwise face some difficulties."

Fay coughs.

Your old rival Pipistrelle Clawson had struggled with the Minerval Wardress, Tutor, and Housemaster over her Leontes boyfriend, frequently collecting lashings. You agreed to take one of her punishments, and you are eager to not repeat that experience.

"Without my consent, you may find it difficult to visit Miss Redmoor either here or at your House," the Warden says. "I will let you consider things for a moment while I talk with Miss Redmoor. Please remain seated."

"Do we let that letch watch us with Golondrina?" Fay says, raising her eyebrows.

"She's got a point, about the Houses, and sneaking about," you say. You swallow. "Having a sponsor might be the best of a bad lot of choices."

"For now," Fay says.

You look back and forth, carefully not saying your intention to wheedle, seduce, and/or otherwise convince Golondrina to join House Minerval.

"For now," you say.

Fay nods. "Yes."

Golondrina precedes the Warden back into the room. Your limbs lighten. Golondrina looks a question at the two of you.

The Warden seats herself behind her desk, letting Golondrina stand to the side, holding the smooth rod of lignum vitae that Fay had procured to stand in for her wand. "Miss Redmoor is agreeable. What is your answer?" she asks.

"Yes," you and Fay answer.

"Very good. Please find me after you have helped Miss Redmoor recover her wand. I will be looking forward to it."

You feel a tingle of anticipation mixed with dread.

The Warden turns to Golondrina. "If you would prepare your rod, Miss Redmoor?"

Golondrina flushes pink. She nods and sets the rod on the Warden's desk. Raising her robe and under-robe, she tucks the tails under her waist sash, revealing her flaming red bush and muscular, shapely buttocks. Fay laughs. "Yes, let's," she says.

You giggle in relief. "So we can come visit you anytime now?" you say.

"Who knows?" Golondrina says.
